Job Summary
The SAP Project Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and delivering SAP implementation, enhancement, and upgrade projects across the organization. This role ensures that project objectives are met on time, within scope, and within budget while coordinating cross-functional teams, managing stakeholders, and maintaining high standards of quality and compliance. The SAP Project Manager acts as the primary liaison between business users, technical teams, external vendors, and leadership to ensure smooth delivery of SAP solutions that meet business requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Planning & Management
- Develop detailed project plans including scope, timelines, resources, deliverables, risk assessments, and budgets.
- Lead end-to-end SAP project lifecycle phases: initiation, blueprinting, design, build, test, deployment, and hypercare.
- Define and enforce project governance structures and methodologies (e.g., ASAP, Activate, Agile/hybrid).
- Manage multiple concurrent SAP projects while ensuring alignment with business goals.
2. Stakeholder & Team Coordination
- Act as key point of contact among business stakeholders, SAP functional/technical teams, consultants, and vendors.
- Facilitate workshops, requirement-gathering sessions, design reviews, and steering committee meetings.
- Provide clear communication of project status, risks, and issues to leadership and stakeholders.
- Build strong collaborative relationships across departments, ensuring alignment and buy-in for project goals.
3. SAP Solution Delivery
- Oversee configuration, customization, integration, and testing of SAP modules (e.g., FI/CO, MM, SD, PP, HCM, SuccessFactors, S/4HANA).
- Ensure solutions are aligned with SAP best practices and business processes.
- Coordinate data migration activities, integration testing, and user acceptance testing (UAT).
- Ensure documentation completeness: functional specs, technical specs, training materials, test scripts, etc.
4. Risk, Issue & Change Management
- Identify project risks and issues early; develop mitigation strategies and action plans.
- Drive formal change control processes to manage scope modifications and impact analysis.
- Monitor project KPIs and escalate risks in a timely and structured manner.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, data security, and regulatory standards.
5. Budget & Resource Management
- Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost tracking.
- Coordinate with resource managers for allocation of internal and external resources.
- Evaluate vendor proposals, manage contracts, and govern consultant performance.
6. Training, Go-Live & Post-Implementation Support
- Oversee creation of training materials and end-user documentation.
- Manage cutover plans, go-live readiness activities, and deployment execution.
- Lead hypercare support and transition activities to operations/support teams.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Computer Science, or related field.
- MBA or relevant master's degree (preferred).
Experience
- 510+ years of SAP project management experience, including full SAP project lifecycle delivery.
- Proven experience with SAP S/4HANA, ECC, or cloud-based SAP solutions.
- Experience managing cross-functional teams and complex, multi-module SAP implementations.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of SAP modules and underlying business processes (Finance, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, HR, etc.).
- Familiarity with integration technologies (IDocs, APIs, middleware, etc.).
- Knowledge of SAP implementation methodologies (ASAP, SAP Activate, Agile frameworks).
Project Management Skills
- Strong project planning, resource allocation, and risk management skills.
- Expertise with project management tools (JIRA, MS Project, ServiceNow, Azure DevOps, etc.).
- PMP, PRINCE2, Scrum Master, or SAP Activate certification (preferred).
Soft Skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
