Key Responsibilities
1. Sales & Business Development
- Proactively identify and approach new customers across relevant segments including hotels, restaurants, caterers, and institutional buyers.
- Develop and execute strategies to grow brand awareness and expand our customer base in a systematic and sustainable way.
- Build and manage a pipeline of prospects, converting leads into long-term accounts.
- Identify partnership opportunities with complementary businesses or platforms that could drive referrals and increase visibility.
2. Tender Management
- Identify and apply for hotel, government, and institutional tenders relevant to our range of food commodities.
- Develop and maintain a clear understanding of market pricing and competitor rates to inform competitive tender submissions.
- Work closely with directors to understand their preferred pricing positions and factor in cost price and operating expenses to arrive at a proposed submission price.
- Seek internal approval from directors before finalising and submitting any tender, ensuring alignment on pricing strategy and commercial terms.
- Track tender timelines, renewal dates, and submission requirements to ensure no opportunities are missed.
3. Account Management & Debt Collection
- Maintain strong relationships with existing customers, serving as the primary point of contact for account-related matters.
- Monitor outstanding balances and follow up proactively with customers on overdue payments, escalating where necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of collection activity and outstanding debts, and provide regular updates to the finance team.
4. Customer Complaint Handling
- Receive and log customer complaints and feedback in a timely and professional manner.
- Liaise with the relevant internal teams (warehouse, customer service, procurement) to investigate and resolve issues.
- Follow up with customers to close the loop and ensure satisfaction after resolution.
5. Internal Coordination
- Communicate market intelligence, customer feedback, and pricing developments to directors and relevant teams on a regular basis.
- Collaborate with the customer service and procurement teams to ensure customer commitments are fulfilled accurately and on time.
Qualifications & Skills
Education
Diploma or certificate in Business, Marketing, Sales, or a related field.Candidates without formal qualifications but with strong relevant experienceare equally welcome to apply.
Experience
- 3 to 5 years of experience in sales, business development, or account management, ideally within food distribution, wholesale, or FMCG.
- Prior experience managing tender submissions or working with hotel and government procurement teams is a strong advantage.
- Track record of growing a customer base and meeting sales targets independently.
Skills & Attributes
- Proficient in Mandarin and at least one Chinese dialect such as Hokkien, as the role requires effective communication with a diverse customer base.
- Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with customers across different backgrounds.
- Commercially minded, with the ability to understand cost structures and price strategically for tender submissions.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Organised and detail-oriented, particularly when managing tender documentation, payment records, and complaint logs.
- Comfortable with a 6-day work week, including Saturday
