The Qualifications We Seek
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 1-3 years of accounting experience in commercial real estate, retail property management, or property management accounting
- Hands-on experience in retail lease accounting, lease abstracting, CAM (Common Area Maintenance) reconciliation, and lease administration highly preferred
- Working knowledge of GAAP and its application in day-to-day accounting
- Experience processing high-volume accounting transactions accurately and efficiently
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, email applications, and property management/accounting systems such as Yardi, MRI, OneSite, PayScan, or similar platforms
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills for financial calculations, reconciliations, budgeting, and reporting
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational, time management, and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Dependable, proactive, and accountable, with the ability to meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality, work independently, and collaborate effectively across teams
Your Daily Tasks
- Maintain accurate rent rolls, tenant ledgers, management fees, revenues, security deposits, commissions, and occupancy records
- Process tenant reimbursements, leasing commissions, and other payments while ensuring compliance with lease terms and broker agreements
- Review, reconcile, and audit accounting records, receipts, disbursements, and encumbrances to maintain financial accuracy
- Prepare monthly retail financial statements, owner packages, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Coordinate with utility billing providers on allocation methodologies for retail tenants
- Track percentage rent, index-based rent increases, sales reporting, and allocate invoices between retail and residential properties as required
- Analyze budget-to-actual variances, prepare correcting journal entries, and support month-end close activities
- Manage cash activities, including vendor payments, tenant receivables, security deposit refunds, cash deposits, and bank reconciliations
- Respond to accounting inquiries from owners, business leaders, operations teams, and other stakeholders regarding financial reports and lease-related matters
- Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance accounting accuracy, efficiency, and productivity
- Perform other accounting duties and special projects as assigned
