Fuel the Future With Us
The Retail Finance Manager is a pivotal role that sits at the intersection of Finance and the Commercial team, serving as the primary financial voice within Retail Sales. Beyond maintaining accurate records and reporting variances against budget, the role demands a proactive mindset — one that translates complex financial data into actionable insights, challenges assumptions, and partners with senior leadership to shape commercial strategy and drive sustainable profitability.
How You'll Drive Success
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Lead the annual budgeting process for the Retail P&L in close partnership with the Retail VP, Buying & Merchandising, Retail Managers, Corporate Planning, and Retail Operations
- Translate commercial strategy — range plans, promotional calendars, pricing architecture, and volume targets — into detailed financial projections covering revenue, gross margin, and operating costs
- Build and maintain a robust, driver-based budgeting model that captures key commercial levers (selling price, cost, margin, volume mix) including sensitivity analysis
- Coordinate quarterly reforecast cycles, incorporating the latest financial results, trading trends, and market intelligence to produce updated full-year outlooks
Performance Monitoring & Management Reporting
- Own the monthly retail performance reporting cycle, preparing a comprehensive performance pack delivered on time and to a consistently high standard
- Report actual financial results versus budget and prior year across all key P&L lines, identifying root causes of performance gaps
- Develop and maintain an insightful suite of commercial KPIs — including segment, product, and customer sales, margin, margin rate, and conversion — to give leadership a complete view of Retail operations
- Produce concise, narrative-led executive summaries that highlight the critical issues management needs to act on
Financial Analysis & Commercial Insight
- Category & Channel Profitability: Conduct deep-dives into the profitability of product categories, channels, customer segments, and store clusters, isolating the true drivers of margin performance
- Pricing Analysis: Perform detailed analysis of pricing, discounts, subsidies, and reimbursements, and model the net margin impact of alternative markdown strategies
- Dealer & Cost-to-Serve Analysis: Build and maintain store-level P&L models that account for dealer costs, staffing, and logistics, enabling Operations to prioritize investment
- Scenario Modelling & Business Cases: Develop business cases for new commercial initiatives — new store openings, range extensions, pricing changes, or new channel investments — quantifying risk and return
- Competitive Benchmarking: Integrate external benchmarks, competitor intelligence, and market trends to provide context for internal performance data
Business Partnering & Strategic Support
- Act as a trusted financial advisor to the Retail VP and team, building collaborative, credible relationships that make Finance a valued part of commercial decision-making
- Attend commercial trading meetings, category reviews, and strategic planning sessions as the Finance voice, influencing decisions in real time
- Present analysis and recommendations to senior leadership and ExCo in a clear, compelling, and commercially relevant manner
- Support the broader Finance team with ad hoc analysis and modelling as required by the CFO, CEO, and President
Governance, Controls & Process Improvement
- Ensure all financial reporting complies with internal accounting policies, group reporting standards, and relevant external requirements
- Champion data quality and reporting integrity, working with IT and Operations to resolve gaps or inconsistencies in source data
- Continuously improve the efficiency and insight quality of financial reporting processes, including automation of recurring reports
- Maintain a robust audit trail for budgets, forecasts, and analytical models, ensuring assumptions are documented and controlled
