Role Overview
We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to manage and oversee our end-to-end financial operations. In this role, you will play a critical part in maintaining general ledger integrity, optimizing accounts payable and receivable controls, monitoring working capital, and driving month-end reconciliation processes.
As a Financial Accountant, you will ensure our financial records are accurate, fully compliant with statutory tax guidelines, and audit-ready, while providing management with high-quality monthly financial reporting and actionable variance commentary.
Key Responsibilities
- Reviewing, recording, and coding daily financial transactions while maintaining supporting documentation, monitoring the general ledger for errors, and tagging items for month-end adjustments.
- Monitoring the shared inbox, verifying invoice accuracy and tax compliance (e.g., GST), checking GL coding, and managing the aging schedule to prioritize overdue payments.
- Verifying issued invoices against completed services, tracking customer payments, monitoring the AR aging schedule, and coordinating with site teams to address discrepancies and follow up on overdue accounts.
- Maintaining audit-ready folders and schedules, preparing requested documentation, and tracking auditor queries and pending items to ensure a smooth audit process.
- Tracking daily cash balances, identifying and escalating short-term cash gaps, monitoring supplier payment and customer collection patterns, and reviewing inventory and prepayments.
- Executing rolling reconciliations, matching transactions to supporting documents, validating subledger-to-GL alignment, and managing a Month-End Close (MEC) checklist to prevent bottlenecks and identify adjustments.
- Tracking revenue and expense trends, updating performance dashboards, preparing month-end schedules, and reviewing financial reports to flag anomalies and variances for management meetings.
- Updating fixed asset, prepayment, and accrual registers, ensuring all schedules reconcile with the General Ledger, and organizing digital financial files using standardized version controls for audit compliance.
- Uploading approved payroll payment files, monitoring and tracking payroll funding requirements, maintaining related schedules, and preparing payroll journal entries.
- Ensuring accurate GST coding, reviewing BAS and IAS workpapers, and coordinating timely payments of taxes and other statutory obligations.
- Providing specialized financial analysis (e.g., cash flow, cost, and margin checks), assisting with system clean-ups and process improvements, and preparing custom reports or operational support as requested by management.
Key Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field. A CPA, CA, or equivalent professional qualification is highly regarded.
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a role requiring end-to-end GL control and financial reporting. Experience handling Australian or New Zealand (AU/NZ) accounting standards, GST, and BAS/IAS structures is highly desirable.
