Job Description

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Regional Project Development Manager to originate and develop utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and large-scale microgrid projects across Asia Pacific, with an initial focus on the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia and other strategic markets in the region.

This is a regional project development and origination role, rather than a conventional equipment sales position. The successful candidate will identify and develop greenfield and co-development opportunities, establish strategic partnerships with utilities, IPPs, government stakeholders and local developers, and drive projects through key development, commercial and investment milestones.

Candidates with strong utility-scale solar, wind or other renewable power project development experience are encouraged to apply. Direct BESS experience is highly preferred but not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

1. Regional Project Origination & Pipeline Development

Originate and develop utility-scale BESS and large-scale microgrid projects across APAC, with a focus on the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia and other strategic markets.

Identify greenfield, co-development, acquisition and strategic partnership opportunities and build a sustainable regional project pipeline.

Establish and maintain relationships with local governments, utilities, IPPs, developers, landowners and other key project stakeholders.

Identify and evaluate local development partners and structure potential joint-development opportunities.

Monitor regional power-market developments, energy policies, regulatory changes and emerging commercial opportunities relevant to BESS and microgrids.

2. End-to-End Project Development

Drive projects from early-stage origination and feasibility assessment through development, investment readiness and RTB/NTP stages.

Coordinate permitting, regulatory, site, grid, technical, commercial and other development workstreams.

Develop project development plans, timelines and key milestones and proactively identify and resolve development risks.

Coordinate internal engineering, investment, finance and commercial teams as well as external consultants and local development partners.

3. Grid Connection & Interconnection

Lead and coordinate grid connection and interconnection activities with relevant utilities and grid operators across target markets, including organizations such as NGCP in the Philippines, EVN-related entities in Vietnam and PLN in Indonesia.

Work closely with internal grid and engineering teams to advance grid interconnection studies, applications, technical assessments and connection agreements.

Assess grid availability, connection constraints and technical requirements and evaluate their impact on project feasibility.

4. Commercial Negotiation & Project Structuring

Support or lead negotiations of key project and commercial agreements, including PPA/offtake agreements, Joint Development Agreements (JDA), Shareholders Agreements (SHA), EPC frameworks and other strategic agreements.

Develop commercially viable partnership structures with utilities, IPPs, local developers and other counterparties.

Participate in project due diligence and commercial risk assessment.

5. Project Economics & Investment Viability

Work closely with investment and finance teams to assess project economics and commercial viability, including CAPEX, revenue assumptions, IRR, LCOE/LCOS and bankability.

Support investment evaluation, internal investment approval and project financing processes.

Provide market intelligence and commercial assumptions for BESS revenue models, power tariffs, ancillary services and other relevant revenue opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Energy, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in renewable energy, power infrastructure, IPP or energy project development.
  • Demonstrated experience in utility-scale renewable energy, BESS, power infrastructure or large-scale energy projects.
  • Proven hands-on experience in project origination, greenfield development or end-to-end power project development.
  • Experience in at least two of the following:
  • Grid connection / interconnection
  • PPA / power offtake arrangements
  • Permitting and regulatory approvals
  • Joint development / project partnerships
  • Project commercial structuring
  • Project finance / investment evaluation

  • Strong commercial judgement and ability to understand project economics and financial models.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently across Asia Pacific.
  • Professional working proficiency in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience developing utility-scale BESS or large-scale microgrid projects.
  • Project development experience in two or more APAC markets, particularly the Philippines, Vietnam and/or Indonesia.
  • Experience working directly with utilities or grid operators such as NGCP, EVN-related entities, PLN or equivalent organizations.
  • Experience negotiating PPA, JDA, SHA or other project development agreements.
  • Exposure to project finance, investment analysis, IRR, LCOE/LCOS and infrastructure investment.
  • Established relationships with utilities, IPPs, renewable developers, government stakeholders or local development partners across Southeast Asia.
