Job Description

The Regional Operations Manager – Ship Chandling (APAC) is responsible for the operational and financial performance of designated customer fleets within a maritime supply and ship chandling environment.

This role provides leadership to Vessel Operations Managers and the wider Service Delivery Team to ensure efficient vessel servicing, delivery of provisions and supplies, and achievement of agreed service standards. The role is accountable for maintaining customer satisfaction, meeting defined KPIs, supporting profitability targets, and driving continuous operational improvement across assigned fleets.

The position also supports capacity planning, performance management, and service optimization across vessel operations.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

Lead and manage day-to-day operations across assigned fleets within a ship chandling and maritime supply environment.

Provide leadership to 4 to 6 Vessel Operations Managers, 1 Service Delivery Team Leader, and 2 to 3 Inventory Analysts.

Ensure timely and accurate coordination of vessel servicing, including delivery of provisions, bonded stores, and consumables.

Monitor operational activities to ensure compliance with agreed service standards and customer requirements.

Lead performance management activities including goal setting, coaching, annual appraisals, and development planning for direct reports.

Support team capability development through coaching, mentoring, and structured feedback.

Manage operational escalations from customers, vessels, ports, or internal stakeholders.

Promote a strong service culture focused on reliability, responsiveness, and operational accuracy.

Customer and Service Delivery

Maintain strong relationships with maritime customers and fleet stakeholders.

Participate in customer meetings to review service performance, resolve issues, and identify opportunities for improvement.

Ensure consistent delivery of agreed service levels across vessel provisioning and supply operations.

Monitor service delivery metrics to support customer retention and long-term growth.

Act as a key escalation point for service-related issues impacting vessel operations.

Promote a customer-focused service delivery approach across the team.

Financial and Performance Management

Own financial performance across assigned fleets, ensuring delivery against profitability targets.

Review monthly performance data, including operational costs, service performance, and profitability indicators.

Work closely with the Operations Director to support resource allocation and capacity planning across vessel operations.

Monitor key operational KPIs and implement corrective actions where performance gaps are identified.

Analyze trends in service delivery, vessel turnaround performance, and operational costs.

Support initiatives that improve operational efficiency and cost management across maritime supply operations.

Process Improvement and Operational Efficiency

Continuously review and improve workflows related to vessel provisioning and supply coordination.

Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) aligned with ship chandling operational standards.

Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance delivery accuracy, turnaround time, and service reliability.

Promote standardized practices across fleets and vessel servicing operations.

Support implementation of structured process improvement and operational efficiency programs.

Team Leadership and Development

Motivate and lead the Service Delivery Team to achieve operational and service performance targets.

Facilitate performance reviews, development planning, and career discussions.

Provide direction, support, and constructive feedback to Vessel Operations Managers and team leaders.

Build a culture of accountability, ownership, and operational excellence.

Encourage collaboration across operational and support teams.

Requirements

Proven leadership experience within ship chandling, maritime supply, or vessel provisioning operations.

Strong operational management experience in maritime supply, vessel servicing, or marine logistics environments.

Demonstrated experience managing customer fleets and vessel service delivery operations.

Proven ability to manage and drive financial performance across assigned customer portfolios.

Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively across multicultural and geographically distributed teams.

Experience managing operational escalations related to vessel supply or service delivery.

Ability to perform effectively under pressure in a fast-paced operational environment.

Experience supporting operational or organizational change initiatives.

Qualifications

Fluent in English, both spoken and written.

Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Experience working with ERP systems within maritime supply or logistics environments is preferred.

Familiarity with vessel scheduling, port operations, and maritime workflows is highly desirable.
