Job Description

The Rebar Engineer (Civil Engineer) is responsible for planning, detailing, and supervising all reinforcement (rebar) works for medium- and high-rise building projects. Reporting to the Project Manager or Project-in-Charge, the Rebar Engineer ensures accuracy of rebar designs, compliance with structural drawings, and coordination with other disciplines to achieve safe and timely completion of concrete works.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Rebar Detailing and Design Coordination

Review and interpret structural drawings, bar bending schedules (BBS), and shop drawings.

Prepare or check rebar shop drawings to ensure compliance with design and construction standards.

Identify discrepancies or conflicts between disciplines and recommend corrective measures.

Coordinate with designers and consultants for technical clarifications.

2. Planning and Quantity Estimation

Prepare rebar quantity take-offs, cutting lists, and bar bending schedules for procurement and fabrication.

Plan rebar fabrication and delivery schedules to align with construction activities.

Monitor material usage and minimize wastage through efficient planning.

Coordinate with the Formworks Engineer and Procurement team for rebar material requirements.

3. Site Implementation and Supervision

Supervise rebar installation, tying, and placement works as per approved drawings.

Conduct inspection and verification of reinforcement prior to concrete pouring.

Ensure rebar alignment, spacing, and cover are consistent with design requirements.

Coordinate sequencing of rebar and concreting works with site engineers and foremen.

4. Quality and Safety Control

Ensure rebar works conform to QA/QC standards, design specifications, and safety protocols.

Conduct joint inspections with QA/QC and Safety Officers before pouring concrete.

Prepare inspection requests (IRs) and assist in consultant/client inspections.

Maintain records of mill certificates, material tests, and site inspections.

5. Documentation and Reporting

Maintain updated rebar drawings, revisions, and inventory records.

Prepare daily and weekly progress reports for Project Manager or Project-in-Charge.

Assist in preparation of as-built drawings and final documentation.

Support management in tracking rebar progress and productivity metrics.

6. Cost and Efficiency Optimization

Recommend rebar splicing and lapping techniques to minimize material wastage.

Support value engineering initiatives to improve cost efficiency.

Monitor manpower and productivity of rebar teams to meet project timelines

Requirements

3 to 5 years of experience in rebar works for medium- and high-rise building construction

Proficient in interpreting structural drawings and preparing bar bending schedules (BBS)

Knowledgeable in rebar detailing software (Tekla, Revit, AutoCAD) and MS Excel

Familiar with ACI, NSCP, and other relevant structural codes

Strong analytical and coordination skills with attention to detail

Excellent communication and team management abilities

Licensed Civil Engineer (PRC Registered)
