Job Description

We are looking for a Real Estate Accounting Manager to oversee multiple property portfolios while leading and supporting a team of portfolio accountants. This role serves as a key quality control point, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, while also handling an individual portfolio. You will be responsible for maintaining high standards across accounting deliverables and proactively resolving issues before escalation.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Quality Control

Supervise and mentor a team of portfolio accountants

Review and approve financial reports, reconciliations, and variance analyses prior to submission

Ensure consistent reporting standards, accuracy, and deadlines across the team

Act as the first point of escalation for accounting-related issues

Support onboarding and training of new team members

Financial Reporting and General Ledger

Prepare and review quarterly operating statements for assigned properties

Maintain and review general ledgers, including posting adjusting journal entries

Perform variance analysis and provide explanations for significant fluctuations

Manage intercompany reconciliations, billings, and allocations

Tax and Audit Support

Prepare year-end tax and audit workpapers, including schedules and reconciliations

Coordinate with external accountants and auditors and respond to information requests

Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and submitted on time

Property Accounting and Compliance

Handle CAM reconciliations, lease escalations, and tenant billing adjustments

Review lease agreements and ensure accurate application of financial terms

Prepare financial data required for compliance, reporting, and filings

Banking and Cash Management

Perform monthly bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly

Maintain accurate records of cash activity across multiple entities

Loan and Reporting Requirements

Prepare financial reports required by lenders and loan agreements

Coordinate with external stakeholders when needed to meet reporting obligations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum 6–7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3–4 years in real estate or property accounting
  • At least 2 years of supervisory or team lead experience
  • Experience preparing audit and tax workpapers for external stakeholders
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, variance analysis)
  • Experience with property accounting systems such as Yardi or similar platforms is an advantage

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of CAM reconciliations, lease accounting, and property-level reporting
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to review and improve the work of others while maintaining team standards
  • Comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment
