• Tutoring schedules will primarily correspond with students availability after school and may therefore require tutors to work early-morning hours in the Philippines.
• Specific schedules will be established based on student assignments.

Instruction: One-on-One Online Tutoring

JOB OVERVIEW:

The client is seeking compassionate, energetic, and highly capable Reading Tutors to provide one-on-one online reading instruction to students in Grades 3–8.

The Reading Tutor will work with students who are reading below their expected grade level and need additional individualized support to strengthen foundational reading skills, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

This role is ideal for teachers, former teachers, education graduates, English instructors, reading specialists, and experienced tutors who enjoy working individually with children and seeing measurable improvement in their reading ability.

JOB ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide engaging one-on-one online reading tutoring to students in Grades 3–8.
• Deliver structured reading lessons based on each student's current reading level and learning needs.
• Help students strengthen:
• Phonemic awareness and phonics
• Word recognition and decoding
• Reading accuracy
• Oral reading fluency
• Vocabulary
• Reading comprehension
• Written responses to reading
• Identify specific areas where students are struggling and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Follow Waypoint's prescribed reading intervention program, lesson plans, and instructional materials.
• Administer assigned reading assessments and progress checks.
• Document student performance after each tutoring session.
• Track student progress against established reading goals.
• Provide encouraging, constructive feedback that builds students confidence as readers.
• Communicate concerns or lack of progress to the assigned program supervisor.
• Attend tutor training, coaching, calibration, and team meetings as required.
• Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality for all scheduled tutoring sessions.
• Create a positive, patient, supportive, and professional online learning environment.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, English, Education, Reading, Language Arts, Special Education, or a closely related field.
• Strong command of spoken and written English.
• Excellent English pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension.
• Strong understanding of basic reading instruction, including phonics, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
• Ability to explain concepts clearly to children at different learning levels.
• Patient, encouraging, engaging, and comfortable working with students who may be struggling academically.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills among children.
• Comfortable using Zoom, Google Meet, or similar online teaching platforms.
• Reliable computer, headset, webcam, and stable high-speed internet connection.
• Ability to work scheduled hours aligned with students tutoring schedules.
• Strong attention to documentation and student progress tracking.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with one or more of the following will be given preference:

• Licensed Professional Teacher (LPT) in the Philippines.
• Degree in Elementary Education with specialization in English or Reading.
• Previous experience teaching elementary or middle-school students.
• Experience teaching English, reading, phonics, or language arts.
• Experience providing one-on-one tutoring or academic intervention.
• Experience working with struggling or below-grade-level readers.
• Familiarity with structured literacy or evidence-based reading instruction.
• Experience administering reading assessments or monitoring student reading progress.
• ESL or online teaching experience involving children.

• Is coachable and willing to follow Waypoint's instructional methodology.
• Believes that reading ability can improve significantly with proper instruction, practice, encouragement, and consistency.

• Student attendance and engagement
• Tutor attendance and punctuality
• Quality and consistency of instruction
• Accuracy of student documentation
• Completion of required assessments
• Student reading progress
• Achievement of individualized learning goals
• Parent/student feedback when applicable
• Compliance with Waypoint's tutoring methodology and quality standards

Technology Requirements

Tutors must have:

• Reliable desktop or laptop computer
• Webcam
• Quality headset with microphone
• Stable high-speed internet connection
• Quiet and professional tutoring environment
• Backup internet access whenever possible
