We are seeking an experienced Radiation Oncology Biller to manage the full revenue cycle for a specialized oncology practice. This role requires deep expertise in radiation oncology billing workflows, payer-specific requirements, and hands-on experience with ARIA EMR.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive in resolving denials, and confident navigating complex reimbursement processes across Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers.
Key Responsibilities
Revenue Cycle Management
- Manage end-to-end billing operations including charge entry, claim submission, payment posting, denial management, and A/R follow-up
- Submit accurate, compliant claims across radiation oncology services to ensure timely reimbursement
- Monitor A/R aging and drive resolution of outstanding balances to maintain healthy cash flow
Radiation Oncology Billing Execution
- Bill for a full range of services including EBRT, IMRT, IGRT, SBRT/SABR, brachytherapy, SRS, and treatment planning
- Apply correct CPT codes, modifiers, and billing rules to ensure compliance and minimize rejections
- Coordinate with coding teams to resolve charge capture discrepancies and optimize billing accuracy
Denials & Appeals Management
- Analyze EOBs and remittance advices to identify denials, underpayments, and discrepancies
- Lead appeals process for denied and rejected claims, leveraging knowledge of radiation oncology payer trends
- Implement corrective actions to reduce recurring denial patterns
Insurance & Authorization Coordination
- Verify patient eligibility and benefits prior to service delivery
- Collaborate with authorization teams to ensure treatment plans meet payer requirements
- Ensure all services are properly authorized to prevent revenue leakage
Payment Posting & Reconciliation
- Post payments accurately and reconcile accounts across multiple payers
- Identify and escalate underpayments or inconsistencies for resolution
Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer guidelines specific to radiation oncology
- Document all billing activities thoroughly within ARIA EMR and practice management systems
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and payer-specific billing standards
Stakeholder Communication
- Communicate effectively with payers, patients, and internal teams to resolve billing inquiries
- Provide clear updates on account status and resolution timelines
Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on radiation oncology or oncology billing experience
- Proven experience managing the full billing cycle in a radiation oncology setting
- Proficiency in ARIA EMR, including charge capture and treatment documentation workflows
- Strong understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer billing rules
- Experience handling denied and rejected claims through the full appeals process
- Knowledge of radiation oncology CPT codes, modifiers, and bundling rules
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Radiation Oncology Coding Certificate (ROCC) or equivalent credential
- CPC, CCS, or other AAPC/AHIMA certification
- Familiarity with ASTRO and ACR billing guidelines
- Experience with both hospital outpatient and professional/physician billing
- Exposure to physics and dosimetry charge workflows
