Quality Engineering Lead – Automation & AI Testing

The Opportunity
We're seeking a hands-on Quality Engineering Lead to drive automation, AI-assisted testing, and modern quality engineering practices across a major enterprise IT portfolio.
This is a technical leadership role where you'll design and build enterprise automation frameworks, establish quality engineering standards, mentor engineers, and champion an automation-first, AI-first approach across multiple delivery teams.
Working closely with the QA & Automation Manager, developers, architects, business analysts, and onshore stakeholders, you'll play a key role in improving software quality while enabling faster and more efficient delivery.

Key Responsibilities
Quality Engineering Leadership
- Lead the design and implementation of enterprise-wide Quality Engineering frameworks and automation standards.
- Champion automation-first and AI-assisted testing practices across delivery teams.
- Mentor, coach, and uplift the capability of Quality Engineers and Test Analysts.
- Conduct automation code reviews and establish engineering best practices.
- Evaluate emerging testing technologies and AI solutions, recommending adoption where appropriate.
Automation & AI Engineering
- Design, build, and maintain reusable automation frameworks, libraries, and accelerators.
- Implement AI-assisted testing capabilities, including intelligent test generation, self-healing automation, AI-assisted defect analysis, and smart test selection.
- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous testing.
- Develop scalable approaches for test data management and environment configuration.
Test Delivery
- Design and execute functional, integration, regression, end-to-end, exploratory, and performance testing.
- Perform manual testing where exploratory testing or business validation is required.
- Analyse business requirements and user stories to ensure comprehensive test coverage.
- Manage defects through to resolution while working closely with development teams.
- Continuously identify opportunities to automate manual testing activities.
Collaboration & Delivery
- Define and report quality metrics, automation coverage, and release readiness.
- Support Agile and DevOps delivery teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Collaborate with developers, architects, business analysts, product owners, and stakeholders across Australia and the Philippines.
- Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and Production Verification activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement across Quality Engineering practices.
About You
You'll ideally bring:
- Extensive experience leading Quality Engineering or Test Automation teams.
- Strong hands-on experience designing enterprise automation frameworks from the ground up.
- Expertise in UI, API, integration, regression, and end-to-end automation testing.
- Experience with modern automation tools such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, Appium, RestAssured, or similar.
- Strong programming or scripting skills in Java, C#, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Python.
- Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Bamboo, or similar.
- Strong understanding of Agile, DevOps, Shift-Left Testing, and Quality Engineering best practices.
- Experience mentoring engineers and driving technical excellence across teams.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with AI-powered testing tools and GenAI technologies.
- Exposure to OpenAI, LangChain, AI Agents, or intelligent automation frameworks.
- Experience working with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud platforms.
- Previous experience supporting Australian enterprise clients.
- ISTQB or relevant Quality Engineering certifications.
