The Quality Control Inspector (Specialist) is responsible for conducting on‑site inspections, monitoring construction and project activities, and verifying compliance with approved specifications, standards, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and the company's Quality Management System.
The role plays a key part in supporting project delivery by identifying quality issues early, ensuring accurate documentation and traceability, and working collaboratively with construction, engineering, and quality teams to achieve compliant and high‑quality outcomes. The Quality Control Inspector (Specialist) contributes to defect prevention, continuous improvement, and the effective execution of project works.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Quality Control & Inspection
- Conduct field inspections in accordance with approved ITPs, procedures, drawings, specifications, and applicable standards.
- Verify that works are carried out in compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Identify non‑conformances and quality issues, and report findings in a timely and accurate manner.
- Support the implementation of corrective and preventive actions to address identified quality risks.
Documentation & Records
- Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, checklists, and test results.
- Collect, review, and submit quality data to support traceability and project reporting requirements.
- Assist with document control processes, including the use of electronic quality management systems where applicable.
- Support the compilation of quality records and as‑built documentation.
Site Coordination & Communication
- Liaise with construction crews, supervisors, and engineers to clarify quality requirements and resolve issues.
- Provide practical guidance to the workforce on quality expectations and inspection requirements.
- Communicate inspection outcomes clearly and professionally to relevant stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying trends, recurring issues, and opportunities to improve quality outcomes.
- Participate in audits, reviews, and quality meetings as required.
Working Onsite
- Ability and willingness to work on site in remote locations around Papua New Guinea (PNG).
- Must be willing and able to work FIFO roster arrangements, with roster cycles varying to meet project requirements (e.g. 28:28, 21:21, 28:14, 42:14).
Management System
- Act in accordance with the Company's Management System and HSEQ policies and procedures including the Capacity Model
- Strong commitment to health and safety legislation and all the company's HSEQ policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS/ LICENCES
- Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience Quality Control Inspector within large‑scale, project‑based environments, preferably in infrastructure, pipeline, energy, oil and gas, renewables, utilities, or comparable sectors.
- Effective oral and written communication skills including proven ability in preparation of written reports, procedures, project communication plans, recommendations and proposals
- Strong diagnostic ability for identifying defects, risks, and root causes across construction activities.
- Capable of interpreting trends from inspection data to predict and prevent quality issues.
- Ability to evaluate complex technical problems and recommend practical, compliant solutions.
- Demonstrated experience in inspection oversight, ITP development, NCR management, and construction quality control.
- Sound knowledge and familiarity with international construction codes, standards and regulations
- Treats Safety/Quality/Environment/Lands/Cultural Heritage management as integral elements of the construction process.
- Highly skilled in stakeholder engagement and relationship management, including working with clients, subcontractors, unions, regulators, and executive teams to balance commercial, compliance, and people outcomes.
- Sound knowledge of relevant legislation and the legislative framework, government policies and reforms.
- Proven track record delivering civil infrastructure projects (e.g., roads, pipelines, renewables, bridges, utilities, earthworks).
- Solid understanding of construction and project quality processes, including welding, coating, NDT, materials testing, and defect management.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply ITPs, quality procedures, and contract specifications.
- Sound knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards (e.g. AS, API, ISO, AS/NZS 1554, and applicable welding codes).
