Job Description

We are seeking an experienced QA Automation Engineer to join a growing Australian technology team delivering enterprise software solutions within the payments and fintech industry.

This is a hands-on technical role focused on ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of business-critical applications. You will work closely with developers, delivery teams, and QA leadership to execute test strategies, build and maintain automation frameworks, and support continuous delivery in a fast-paced Agile environment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Execute test cases across integration, system, regression, and validation testing within existing QA frameworks and tools.
  • Analyse requirements and collaborate with developers and delivery teams to define effective test strategies and coverage.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance automated test scripts to improve efficiency and regression coverage.
  • Perform API, functional, integration, and cross-browser testing for web-based applications.
  • Log, track, and manage defects, ensuring clear traceability from requirements through to resolution.
  • Run regression testing cycles and maintain regression test suites aligned to system changes.
  • Work within CI/CD pipelines and support continuous testing practices using tools such as Jenkins.
  • Provide clear and timely reporting of test progress, execution results, and quality insights (weekly updates expected).
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including stand-ups, sprint planning, and technical discussions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes, tools, and test practices.

Essential Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in QA, software testing, or test automation roles.
  • Strong hands-on experience in test automation (non-negotiable) and ability to work within existing automation frameworks.
  • Strong scripting/programming experience (preferably Java + Groovy/Python scripting for automation tooling).
  • Strong understanding of software testing methodologies including system, integration, regression, and UAT testing.
  • Experience with API testing tools such as Postman.
  • Experience using Git, Jira, and Zephyr (or similar tools).
  • Strong understanding of web technologies including HTML, JSON, SQL, and HTTP.
  • Experience working in Agile environments with CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins).
  • Ability to derive test cases from business and technical requirements with strong traceability focus.
  • Strong experience in payments, financial services, banking, or fintech domains is essential.

Highly Regarded

  • Understanding of PCI DSS, AS2805 / ISO8583, or transaction processing systems.
  • Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter.
  • Exposure to certification or diagnostic testing tools (simulators, loggers, sniffers).
  • Experience with Confluence or Rally.
  • Exposure to DevOps practices and cloud-based environments.

What We're Looking For

  • A proactive and accountable engineer who takes ownership of quality outcomes.
  • Strong communicator who is confident asking questions, raising issues early, and escalating when needed.
  • Comfortable working independently after onboarding and ramp-up (expected independence within 30 days for core test execution tasks).
  • Highly adaptable and resilient in changing environments and priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail with a disciplined approach to test execution and reporting.
  • Collaborative mindset with willingness to support team members and contribute beyond assigned tasks.
  • Someone who demonstrates initiative—not just executing assigned tests but actively improving coverage and approach.

Why Apply

  • Join a high-performing Australian technology team in the payments and fintech space.
  • Work on enterprise-scale applications with real transactional impact.
  • Exposure to structured Agile delivery with modern CI/CD and automation practices.
  • Collaborative, transparent, and highly engaged team culture.
  • Opportunity to grow automation capability and contribute to test strategy evolution.

Team & Environment

  • Part of a collaborative QA and delivery structure with QA leadership and delivery teams.
  • Support from QA Lead and multiple delivery stakeholders during onboarding.
  • Team structure is flat and collaborative, with exposure to multiple engineers across projects.
  • Typical teams consist of 7–10 people per project, with flexible cross-team collaboration as needed.

Commitment

You will work as an independent contractor, not as a Staff X employee.

You are responsible for your own taxes, benefits, and statutory obligations.

The client and Staff X expect a professional service relationship with clear deliverables.

This is not an employee role and does not include standard employment benefits.
