QA Auditor Medical Coder and Team Manager
Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced QA Auditor Medical Coder and Team Manager to oversee the quality, accuracy, and productivity of our medical coding team. This role combines medical coding expertise, quality assurance, team leadership, coaching, and performance management. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of healthcare coding standards and experience managing or mentoring medical coders in a fast-paced, remote environment.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance & Medical Coding
- Conduct regular audits of medical coding work for accuracy, completeness, compliance, and documentation.
- Review coding against applicable coding guidelines, payer requirements, and client standards.
- Identify coding errors, trends, and areas requiring improvement.
- Provide clear and constructive feedback to coders and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain and monitor QA scores and establish quality improvement initiatives.
- Assist with resolving complex coding and documentation issues.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and applicable healthcare regulations.
Team Management
- Lead, supervise, and support a team of medical coders.
- Monitor team productivity, quality, attendance, and overall performance.
- Conduct regular coaching, one-on-one sessions, and performance reviews.
- Develop training and improvement plans based on audit findings.
- Motivate the team and promote accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Handle performance concerns and escalate issues when necessary.
- Ensure team members meet client-specific KPIs and service-level expectations.
Reporting & Operations
- Prepare regular QA, productivity, and team performance reports.
- Track audit results and identify recurring issues or training needs.
- Collaborate with operations and management to improve workflows and processes.
- Participate in calibration sessions to ensure consistent coding and auditing standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation of audit findings, coaching, and corrective actions.
- Support the implementation of new coding guidelines, processes, and client requirements.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in medical coding, auditing, or healthcare revenue cycle management.
- Previous experience in QA auditing and team leadership/management is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and medical coding guidelines.
- Experience auditing medical charts, claims, or coding records.
- Strong understanding of healthcare documentation and coding compliance.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and leadership skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Comfortable working with remote teams and productivity/communication tools.
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC), CCS, CCA, or equivalent certification is preferred.
- HIPAA knowledge or certification is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR) systems.
- Familiarity with medical coding and auditing software.
- Experience with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
- Comfortable using project management, communication, and team productivity tools.
