Job Description

Summary: TheProperty Management Accountant is required to maintain the highest degree of professionalism in all aspects when interfacing with tenants, clients, and service providers.

Property Management Accountants are to display integrity, loyalty,

confidentiality, and professionalism at all times with co-workers and clients, as well as adhere to the Company's highest standards of ethics and dress code. In this highly detail-oriented role, where customer service and pride in your services are crucial to our ongoing success, you will direct and coordinate activities for our Commercial Real Estate firm by performing the following tasks:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Accounting Data and Systems:

  • Prepare to reconcile and verify accounting information to contribute to the accuracy and
  • timeliness of the company's financials.
  • Accountants are required to update property notes as needed within Important Property Information folder on L: drive.
  • Monthly preparation of financial statements; supporting documentation; detail general ledger journal entries; bank reconciliations and other supporting schedules/reconciliations.
  • Prepares and records journal entries and manages the quality of journal entry backup.
  • Analytically reviews the balance sheet and income statement monthly to ensure accuracy. Understands and can speak to variances that occur and can provide assistance as applicable.
  • Maintains accurate cash management on each property account to avoid overdraws.
  • Scrubs GL regularly to correct inconsistencies.
  • Reviews and approves invoices to ensure coding accuracy and/or answers and guides support staff to resources such as Yardi and L Drive folders, etc.
  • Responsible for the monitoring of various reconciliation and balances using multi-general ledgers.
  • Assist with preparation of year-end audit schedules.
  • Prepare CAM estimates, check calculations, add any accounting specific information to the budget to assist in preparation of the budgets and provide assistance when needed on monthly budget performance.
  • Complies and closes out capital projects including but not limited to set up in the Fixed Asset System (FAS) review for accuracy capital payables to accounting codes, vendor names, approvals, lien release support, and other necessary documentation.
  • Review lease administrators work to reconcile in the accounting system. Review lease brief to reconcile tenant billings accounts (NNN/Base Year CAM's).

External Department Support:

  • Perform and complete accounting tasks or projects to support the managers of your portfolio.
  • Works in conjunction with operations/management to review and close accounting month end. Performs a cursory review
  • of various property reports to ensure such reports are clean and accurate.
  • Provides primary support for employees/clients on any accounting related questions and other matters.
  • Assist in training and answering questions for employees on software questions (Yardi and other integrated systems) and other accounting related matters when appropriate.
  • Act to promptly resolve problems or questions; provide timely updates and feedback on status.
  • Maintains professional development through eLearning and other training resources.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Builds and maintains ongoing internal relationships; willingly assisting other team
  • members and focusing on team goals in order to help the company achieve its overall goals.

Other skills and Performance Standards:

  • Exhibit the highest degree of professionalism in all aspects when interfacing with tenants, clients, and service providers.
  • Display integrity, loyalty, confidentiality, and professionalism always with co-workers and clients as well as adhere to the company's highest standards of ethics and dress code.
  • Complete all daily, monthly, and annual deliverables for Senior Manager's review as required.
  • Communication – Ability to interpret accounting results using language and terms understandable to property owners/management.
  • Analytical – Skillfully conduct periodic review and analysis of financial records to ensure balanced accounts.
  • Multi-tasking – Accountants will be assigned to multiple properties/projects/clients and should be able to multi-task between them.
  • Ability to train 1 or more employees at a lower level.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years commercial real estate accounting experience in Yardi (required).
  • College degree required: Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to supervise 1 or more employees.
  • A problem-solving mindset and ability to troubleshoot.
  • High level of attention to detail a must.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Prior US client experience.

Stronger technical accounting skills, specifically those with:

  • Expense analysis
  • Prepaid and accrual entries (required)
  • Yardi experience (required)
  • CAM knowledge (preferred)

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in Excel; Internet software, Word and Outlook. Yardi experience is a must.
