Job Description

To oversee and inspect dredging works associated with dams, reservoirs, intake structures, and hydropower facilities, ensuring activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with approved specifications, environmental regulations, and contract requirements. The role ensures proper sediment removal, disposal, and protection of hydraulic structures to maintain reservoir capacity and operational performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor daily dredging activities (mechanical or hydraulic)
  • Verify dredging limits, depth, and alignment per approved drawings
  • Ensure proper positioning of dredgers and support equipment
  • Witness survey checks (pre- and post-dredging)
  • Ensure compliance with method statements
  • Verify compliance with technical specifications
  • Inspect sediment removal volumes
  • Validate bathymetric survey results
  • Monitor turbidity and water quality controls
  • Check disposal area compliance
  • Ensure sediment control measures are implemented.
  • Monitor spill prevention and containment systems
  • Verify compliance with environmental permits
  • Enforce marine and water safety practices
  • Report incidents and non-conformances
  • Maintain daily dredging logs
  • Prepare inspection and progress reports
  • Track dredged volumes vs. planned quantities
  • Document equipment productivity
  • Maintain photographic and survey records
  • Coordinate with survey teams and marine crews
  • Liaise with Resident Engineer and QA/QC teams
  • Support measurement and billing verification
  • Assist in resolving technical issues on site
  • Participate in coordination meetings

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Master's Degree in Hydraulic/Water Resources Engineering
  • Licensed/Registered Civil Engineer (if required in country of assignment)
  • Training in Marine/Dredging Operations
  • Construction Safety Certification
  • Environmental Management Certification (e.g., ISO 14001 awareness)
  • QA/QC or Construction Inspection Training
  • Hydrographic Survey Training
  • Minimum 812 years of civil engineering experience
  • At least 5 years in dam, reservoir, or hydropower projects
  • Proven experience in dredging operations (reservoir desiltation, intake clearing, river training works)
  • Experience in quantity verification and contractor billing support
  • Experience working with environmental compliance requirements
  • Experience in large infrastructure or water-retaining structures
  • Strong knowledge of dredging methodologies (cutter suction, clamshell, backhoe dredging)
  • Experience in large-scale reservoir rehabilitation projects
  • Understanding of sediment transport and reservoir siltation
  • Familiarity with hydrographic survey software
  • Knowledge of dam safety and intake protection requirements
  • Experience under FIDIC-based contracts
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and dredging plans
  • Experience in international donor-funded projects
  • Proficiency in MS Office and reporting tools
  • Knowledge of project scheduling basics (Primavera/MS Project)
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills
