Objectives of Role
Reporting to the Project Accounting Lead, the Project Accountant will play a key role in the financial management of International Development Assistance Programs. This role requires strong financial acumen, the ability to work cross-culturally, and excellent communication skills to bridge project/program teams and corporate finance functions. The ideal candidate is a team player who understands the centralisation of project accounting functions, can roll up their sleeves when required, and brings a business improvement mindset with critical thinking and attention to detail.
This role is suited for an adaptable, solutions-focused individual who thrives in a dynamic, cross-cultural environment and is passionate about driving financial excellence in international development projects.
Roles And Responsibilities
- Ensure DT Global and the program team is in compliance with contractual financial arrangements and accounting standards.
- Provide oversight of project finances, budgets, and expenditure reporting.
- Manage project finance activities, including:
- Monthly account reconciliations and project ledger maintenance.
- Revenue recognition and invoicing processes.
- Costing for contract amendments
- Conduct financial monitoring reviews to ensure strong internal controls and compliance with donor and corporate requirements. Provide recommendations to strengthen internal controlsand enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of in-country project financial management.
- External audit for programs
- Financial training and support for in-country finance teams.
- Cash flow management, forecasting, and reporting.
- Preparation of external and internal financial reports.
- Support project start-up and closure by establishing financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Collaborate closely with corporate finance and internal audit teams to ensure financial governance and risk mitigation.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure the company's technical and management reputation is upheld at all times.
- Provide ad-hoc financial support to other areas of the organisation as needed.
- Some domestic and international travel may be required.
About You
Essential Experience and Knowledge
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting or a related field with a minimum of 5 years experience in a similar project accounting role.
- Strong understanding of financial compliance, reporting, and internal controls in a project-based environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across different cultural and organisational contexts.
- Ability to operate as a bridge between program teams and corporate finance, ensuring seamless collaboration.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Business improvement mindset with the ability to challenge existing processes and drive efficiencies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

- Demonstrated ability to prioritise and manage multiple deadlines effectively.
- Adaptable and willing to take on a hands-on approach when required.
