Job Description

About the Role

As a Product Manager at PayMongo, you will own the end-to-end lifecycle of products and features that help Filipino businesses accept payments, manage money, and grow.

You'll work from problem discovery through product launch and continuous improvement —understanding merchant needs, identifying opportunities, defining product strategy, working with Design and Engineering to build solutions, and measuring whether what we ship actually creates value.

This isn't a role focused simply on maintaining a backlog or delivering features.

You'll be expected to balance customer needs, business opportunities, user experience, technical feasibility, financial implications, and regulatory considerations to determine not only how we build — but what we should build and why.

What You'll Do

Own Product Strategy & Roadmap

You'll help define where your product should go and make thoughtful decisions about what deserves to be built.

You will:

  • Own and continuously evolve the roadmap for your product area.
  • Identify opportunities that create meaningful customer and business value.
  • Develop product strategies and business models that support PayMongo's broader objectives.
  • Prioritize initiatives based on customer impact, commercial potential, risk, effort, and technical
  • feasibility.
  • Make clear trade-offs when competing opportunities can't all be pursued at once.
  • Build compelling narratives that explain product priorities and influence decisions across the
  • organization.
  • Ensure roadmap decisions remain grounded in both customer needs and business strategy.

Lead Product Discovery

Before deciding on a solution, you'll make sure we're solving the right problem.

You will:

  • Work closely with Product Design and other stakeholders to understand merchant needs and pain points.
  •  Conduct or participate in customer and user research.
  • Define and validate problem spaces before committing significant engineering resources.
  • Develop hypotheses and identify assumptions that need to be tested.
  • Explore potential solutions through prototypes, experiments, and design sprints.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative insights to inform prioritization.
  • Decide when there's enough evidence to move from discovery into development.

You'll be expected to remain curious about why customers behave the way they do rather than jumping immediately to features.

Define What Success Looks Like

You'll turn customer and business needs into clear product requirements and measurable outcomes.

You will:

  • Translate product opportunities into well-defined requirements.
  • Develop clear Product Requirement Documents and supporting product documentation.
  • Define success metrics before launch.
  • Establish KPIs that connect product performance with customer and business outcomes.
  • Work with stakeholders to align expectations before development begins.
  • Ensure Engineering and Design understand both what we're trying to achieve and why it matters.

Partner With Design & Engineering to Build

You'll work closely with Product Designers, Engineers, and Engineering Managers throughout development.

You will:

  • Participate in sprint planning and product-development rituals.
  • Clarify product requirements and priorities.
  • Make trade-offs when technical constraints or new information emerge.
  • Resolve competing priorities and unblock dependencies.
  • Maintain alignment between product intent, design, and technical implementation.
  • Keep stakeholders informed as products move through development.
  • Help ensure product increments are delivered in line with roadmap objectives.
  • You'll need to influence effectively without relying on formal authority — bringing teams together around a
  • shared understanding of the customer problem and desired outcome.

Navigate Fintech, Risk & Regulatory Considerations

Building financial products means that good product decisions must work for customers and operate responsibly within financial and regulatory requirements.

You will:

  • Partner with Risk & Compliance, Finance, and other relevant teams when evaluating product decisions.
  • Consider regulatory implications when designing new products and features.
  • Assess pricing, cash-flow, and financial implications where relevant.
  • Understand potential product and operational risks.
  • Incorporate appropriate controls and compliance considerations into product requirements.
  • Help ensure products are commercially sound, operationally viable, and compliant before launch.

You don't necessarily need to arrive as an expert in every aspect of payments regulation, but you should be comfortable learning complex domains and incorporating constraints into product decisions.

Drive Product Launch & Go-to-Market

Your ownership doesn't stop when Engineering finishes building.

You will:

  • Work with Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, and other teams to prepare for product launches.
  • Develop clear narratives around the value of new products and features.
  • Ensure customer-facing and internal teams understand what is launching, who it is for, and why it
  • matters.
  • Support adoption and onboarding strategies.
  • Coordinate dependencies that affect launch readiness.
  • Help ensure the organization is prepared to successfully bring new capabilities to merchants.

Measure, Learn & Improve

A product isn't successful simply because it shipped.

You will:

  • Monitor product performance against defined success metrics.
  • Track measures such as activation, adoption, retention, revenue impact, and customer experience.
  • Analyze product data and customer feedback.
  • Identify where users encounter friction or fail to adopt expected behaviors.
  • Investigate why performance differs from expectations.
  • Use post-launch insights to determine what should be improved, expanded, changed, or stopped.
  • Feed what you learn back into product discovery and roadmap decisions.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a Product Manager who combines customer empathy, commercial thinking, analytical rigor, and strong execution.

You will likely thrive in this role if you have:

  • Strong experience owning products or significant product initiatives through iterative development cycles.
  • Advanced understanding of product strategy and roadmapping.
  • Experience working closely with Engineering and Product Design.
  • Strong product discovery and problem-definition skills.
  • Experience translating customer and business needs into clear product requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to use data to inform product decisions.
  • Experience defining meaningful product KPIs and success measures.
  • A working understanding of user research and UX principles.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a hypothesis-driven approach to decisions.
  • Excellent stakeholder-management skills.
  • The ability to influence without formal authority.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to explain complex product decisions to both technical and business audiences.
  • Comfort operating in an environment where priorities and information can change quickly.

Nice to Have

Experience or familiarity with any of the following would be particularly valuable:

  • Fintech or payments
  • Banking or financial services
  • B2B SaaS or technology products
  • Payment processing or payment infrastructure
  • Merchant-facing products
  • BSP-regulated environments
  • Product pricing and monetization
  • Go-to-market planning
  • Product analytics and experimentation
  • Working with external partners or technology integrations

Previous fintech experience is valuable but isn't required. We're particularly interested in people who can learn complex domains quickly and make good product decisions when customer, commercial, technical, and regulatory considerations intersect.

How We Think About Product Management

We believe strong Product Managers do more than manage requirements.

You'll be expected to continuously ask:

  • What problem are we solving
  • Who are we solving it for
  • Why is this worth solving now
  • What evidence tells us this is the right problem or solution
  • How does this create value for both the customer and PayMongo
  • What are the risks, constraints, and trade-offs
  • How will we know if it worked

That means being equally comfortable talking to merchants, reviewing product data, debating priorities with stakeholders, working through constraints with Engineers, collaborating with Designers, and explaining the business case behind a product decision.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role isn't measured by how many features you ship.

It means consistently helping PayMongo build the right products, for the right customers, for the right reasons.

Your work should contribute to:

  • Stronger product activation and adoption.
  • Better customer retention and merchant experience.
  • Meaningful revenue and business impact.
  • Clearer and more strategically aligned product roadmaps.
  • Faster delivery of high-value product improvements.
  • Better product decisions grounded in customer and market insight.
  • Well-managed regulatory, financial, and operational considerations.
  • Strong launch readiness and cross-functional alignment.
  • Clear product documentation and stakeholder communication.
  • Continuous learning and improvement after products reach the market.

Ultimately, you'll help shape products that are valuable to merchants, viable for the business, usable for

customers, and feasible to build and operate at scale.

Team & Reporting

The Product Manager is part of PayMongo's Product team and reports to the Head of Product. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.

You'll work closely with:

  • Product Design
  • Engineering Managers and Software Engineers
  • Marketing
  • Sales and Commercial teams
  • Customer Success and Support
  • Finance
  • Risk & Compliance

Depending on your product area, you may also work directly with merchants, partners, payment providers, and other participants in the payments ecosystem.
