Role Description

The Product Formulation and R&D Head is a full-time, on-site leadership role based in Tanza. This role is responsible for leading the development of new food products and improving existing formulations in alignment with Delimondo's quality, safety, and brand standards. Day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing laboratory and pilot-scale trials, managing product testing and sensory evaluation, and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and internal quality protocols. The role collaborates closely with operations, procurement, marketing, and quality assurance teams to translate culinary concepts and market insights into scalable, commercially viable products. The Product Formulation and R&D Head also manages the R&D team, sets project priorities and timelines, maintains technical documentation, and continuously scouts new ingredients, technologies, and processes to drive innovation.

Qualifications

  • Strong expertise in food product development and formulation, including experience with recipe creation, reformulation, and shelf-life optimization.
  • Proficiency in R&D project management, including planning experiments, analyzing results, and translating findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Solid understanding of food safety, quality systems, and applicable regulatory standards (e.g., HACCP, GMP, local and international food regulations).
  • Experience in sensory evaluation, product testing, and interpreting consumer or market feedback to refine formulations.
  • Effective leadership and people management skills, with experience guiding technical teams and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and problem-solving abilities, including comfort with data-driven decision-making and technical reporting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline; advanced degree is an advantage.
  • Relevant experience in the food manufacturing or FMCG sector, preferably in savory, canned, or specialty food products.
  • Willingness to work on-site in Tanza and be hands-on in production, trials, and plant-based activities.
