Job Summary

The Purchasing Manager – New Product Introduction (NPI) leads the development and execution of sourcing strategies for direct materials to support new product launches and sustain production across global manufacturing sites. This role ensures seamless material readiness, supplier capability, and cost competitiveness aligned with Advanced Energy's product roadmap and revenue goals.

The position is responsible for supplier selection, early supplier engagement, and cross-functional collaboration with Engineering, Operations, and Quality to enable smooth product transitions from design to mass production. It also oversees supplier performance across quality, delivery, and cost, while driving risk mitigation and issue resolution to ensure continuity of supply.

This role reports to the Director, Purchasing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead procurement activities supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and engineering builds, ensuring timely availability of direct materials aligned with program milestones.
  • Develop and execute commodity and sourcing strategies for direct materials, including electronics, mechanical components, and assemblies.
  • Partner closely with Engineering, R&D, and Program Management teams to influence design for cost, manufacturability, and supply chain resilience.
  • Responsible for cost reduction and supplier performance
  • Provides management support for business and strategic procurement activities.
  • Develops cost effective sources of supply that support AE's growth strategies.
  • Evaluates price trends, new products, and manufacturing processes that improve overall commodity team performance. Overall responsibilities for Price negotiations and all pricing decisions
  • Develops and administers supplier contracts for managing costs, schedules, performance factors, service levels, supplier liability limits, and continuity of supply.
  • Provides coaching, mentoring, employee development and team building.
  • Take action to ensure continuous improvement of the Purchasing team's productivity and effectiveness through adequate training of personnel.
  • Develop policies and procedures for the operation of procurement activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in procurement or supply chain, with strong exposure to direct materials and NPI environments, preferably in electronics or high-tech manufacturing.
  • Strong track record in strategic supplier relationship management, performance oversight (quality, delivery, cost), and issue or crisis resolution.
  • Demonstrated people management capability, with experience mentoring, developing, and leading teams of buyers while managing multiple initiatives.
  • Proficient in SAP and/or Ariba, with solid MS Office skills and the ability to respond decisively to dynamic business requirements.
