Your bite-size role:
The Process Design Manager oversees the piping, plumbing, civil, electrical, and control design teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality, compliant, and efficient project designs. You will lead and coordinate all design activities, provide technical guidance and expertise, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that projects meet client requirements, adhere to regulatory standards, and align with company specifications. You will also drive continuous improvement, implement best practices, and ensure that designs are practical, cost-effective, and optimized for constructability and long-term performance.
Your role has a wide range of responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and guide a multidisciplinary design team, including piping, plumbing, civil, electrical, and control engineers, to deliver high-quality project designs.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and implement professional development plans to strengthen team capabilities.
- Ensure all design outputs meet project specifications, client requirements, industry standards, and regulatory compliance.
- Review, approve, and provide detailed feedback on piping, plumbing, civil, electrical, and control designs to maintain accuracy and quality.
- Conduct design audits and inspections to ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety regulations, and environmental policies.
- Provide technical expertise on material selection, system layout, piping and plumbing schematics, civil structures, electrical systems, and control systems.
- Identify potential design risks, anticipate challenges, and implement mitigation strategies early in the design process.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, clients, procurement, fabrication, and construction teams to ensure design feasibility and alignment with project objectives.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding design-related matters, offering technical solutions and addressing concerns.
- Prepare, review, and present technical reports, design documents, schematics, and presentations for client and management approval.
- Ensure designs are optimized for constructability, cost-efficiency, and long-term operability.
- Develop, implement, and enforce design quality standards, best practices, and workflows to minimize errors and rework.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory updates, integrating innovative solutions into the design process.
- Promote continuous improvement, sustainability, and efficiency within the design team and across projects.
- Plan, schedule, and allocate resources effectively to meet project timelines and budget constraints.
- Track project milestones, monitor team workload, and adjust priorities to maintain delivery efficiency.
- Collaborate with quality assurance and HSE teams to ensure design processes meet safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing, training sessions, and mentorship programs to develop team expertise.
- Coordinate and integrate design solutions with other engineering disciplines to achieve seamless project execution.
- Lead problem-solving sessions for complex design challenges, ensuring timely resolution without compromising quality.
- Provide guidance on regulatory approvals, permit requirements, and documentation necessary for project compliance.
- Support management in strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation for multiple design projects.
- Represent the design team in client meetings, internal reviews, and technical workshops.
Who we need for high-performance team:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 5–8 years of experience in piping, plumbing, civil, electrical, or control system design, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary design teams and delivering high-quality, compliant, and efficient project designs.
- Strong proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and other project management or collaboration tools.
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements (e.g., ASME, ASTM, NFPA, local and international regulations).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is preferred.
- Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and integrating designs across multiple disciplines.
- Familiarity with sustainable design practices, constructability, and environmental considerations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, allocate resources effectively, and drive continuous improvement within the design team.
- Strong client-facing skills, with the ability to present designs, address concerns, and provide technical solutions.
