Principal, Investment Underwriting & Portfolio Value Creation

Role Description

The Principal sits between deal execution and team leadership. You will set the pace and quality standard for a team of Senior Investment Officers (IO) and IOs — running the underwriting workflow from screening to IC-ready credit memos, while maintaining hands-on accountability for portfolio company performance monitoring and value creation initiatives. This is not a supervisory role in name only. You manage output, develop people, and close work.

You are technically sharp and operationally reliable. You have managed up and down — you know how to translate a Managing Partner's direction into a team's weekly work plan, and how to elevate an analyst's draft into an IC-ready document. You are not waiting to be told what to do. You anticipate, structure, and deliver.

Core Responsibilities

• Run deal screening, diligence, and IC memo workflow end-to-end
• Set weekly team cadence — assign, review, and close analyst outputs
• Own portfolio monitoring: covenant tracking, PAR flags, borrower health reviews
• Lead value creation conversations with portfolio companies
• Build and maintain underwriting models, templates, and playbooks
• Drive adoption of data and workflow tools across the team
• Mentor Senior Analysts toward independent deal coverage

What We Require

• 8-10 years in credit, corporate finance, or direct lending
• Strong financial modeling and credit structuring fundamentals
• Experience supervising or coaching junior analysts
• Familiarity with SME or mid-market borrower profiles
• Exposure to mezzanine, structured, or subordinated debt a plus
• Private equity, portfolio ops, or value creation exposure preferred
• Fluency with spreadsheet models, data tools, and credit platforms
