The Principal BIM Technician - Tunnel Systems is responsible for delivering high-quality drawing documentation of Tunnel Systems, including tunnel ventilation and fire protection systems. Requires close coordination with Project BIM Coordinator, Project Engineers, and BIM Manager.

Main Activities and Responsibilities:

  • Produce BIM Models for tunnel ventilation systems and fire protection systems for tunnels and other transport infrastructure using Revit.
  • Produce AutoCAD MEP design drawings.
  • Prepare plant room layouts, sections, details, and coordinated services drawings.
  • Agree on drawing/model priorities and deadlines with Project Engineer/BIM Manager.
  • Contribute to coordination of engineering services on projects.
  • Develop general arrangement drawings from sketches and other design inputs.
  • Discuss and agree on setting out and details with team members.
  • Complete design sketches for tender documents for small/routine work.
  • Follow WSP and project specific CAD/BIM standards and suggest revisions when appropriate.
  • Use CAD/BIM templates and library items to assist design work.
  • Share knowledge and best practices with teammates.
  • Follow QA, document control, archiving & CDM guidelines.
  • Assist senior BIM Technicians and Coordinators with task analysis.
  • Collaborate with project team members on specific aspects.
  • Ensure use of relevant standards and guides per WSP QA processes.
  • Build understanding of basic discipline-based design concepts.
  • Participate in training to extend and share knowledge.
  • Gain appreciation for digital project delivery tools.
  • Comply with role-specific SHEQ obligations.
  • Develop awareness of project delivery risk and mitigation.
  • Perform other duties as directed to support outstanding customer service

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (Engineering) or equivalent
  • Vocational Course (Engineering) or equivalent
  • Working towards engineering registration within jurisdiction

Experience, Skills, and Organisational Knowledge

  • 10+ years experience in MEP Revit modelling including mechanical ventilation, fire detection and fire protection systems.
  • Experience in tunnel and transport infrastructure
  • Ability to perform key technical tasks independently on large projects
  • Proficient in 3D Revit and Navisworks
  • Demonstrated application of company standards, BIM Protocol, and Process
  • Ability to produce 2D Revit documentation per standards
  • Good communication skills (written and oral)
  • Conversant with construction methodology and project delivery methods
  • Understanding of WSP's organisational capability
  • Knowledge of relevant systems, procedures, and practices
  • Awareness of risk management, ethics, and safety
