Power BI System Engineer

The Position:

Join Boehringer Ingelheim's IT Enterprise Data Platform (IT EDP) team as a Power BI System Engineer and play a key role in operating, governing, and continuously enhancing our global Business Intelligence platform.
The role ensures a secure, scalable, and compliant Business Intelligence ecosystem supporting global business domains, enabling trusted, governed self-service analytics and data-driven decision making.

Duties & Responsibilities:

In this role, you will

• Administer and govern the enterprise Power BI tenant aligned with IT EDP standards


• Provide support and incident management; lead root-cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives


• Assist users if they need consulting advice to build their own reports


• Organize and support activities related to the Power BI Community


• Manage capacities (Fabric), performance tuning, cost optimization, and workload balancing


• Implement and monitor security and compliance (Azure AD integration, RLS/OLS/CLS, data sensitivity, GDPR compliance)


• Oversee integration with enterprise data platform (Dataland)


• Maintain platform documentation, standards, and knowledge base

Requirements:

• Extensive experience administering Power BI at enterprise scale


• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric ecosystem


• Strong communication skills, stakeholder engagement, and troubleshooting


• Deep understanding of security, governance, and compliance in regulated environments (e.g., pharma)


• Experience with automation using REST APIs, and Software-as-a-Service concepts


• Solid understanding of data modeling, semantic layers, and analytics patterns


• Expertise with SQL and familiarity with Python, or Spark

Nice-to-have Qualifications:

• Experience in large, global organizations with distributed data ownership


• Microsoft certifications (PL-300, DP-600)


• Experience with monitoring tools and observability practices
