We are seeking an experienced
Plumbing Designer III to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for independently developing high-quality plumbing design and permit documents for a variety of commercial, institutional, and other building projects. Working with minimal supervision from the Project Engineer and Project Manager, you will prepare plumbing system designs, perform engineering calculations, research applicable codes, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver accurate and code-compliant construction documents.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience in plumbing design, is highly proficient in
Revit and AutoCAD, possesses strong knowledge of plumbing codes and industry standards, and demonstrates excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently develop complete plumbing design and permit documents with minimal supervision.
- Prepare plumbing system layouts, riser diagrams, schedules, and detailed construction drawings using Revit and AutoCAD.
- Perform plumbing design calculations, including water supply, sanitary drainage, venting, storm drainage, and fixture unit calculations.
- Research and apply applicable plumbing codes, building codes, and industry standards to ensure code-compliant designs.
- Coordinate plumbing designs with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil disciplines throughout all project phases.
- Collaborate with Project Engineers, Project Managers, architects, consultants, and clients to incorporate design requirements and project objectives.
- Review project requirements and identify potential design conflicts or constructability issues.
- Assist in resolving technical design challenges while maintaining project schedules and quality standards.
- Delegate tasks and provide guidance, technical support, and mentorship to junior designers and drafting staff.
- Participate in internal quality control reviews to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with company standards.
- Recommend process improvements, drafting standards, and workflow enhancements to improve team efficiency and document quality.
- Maintain organized project documentation and ensure timely completion of assigned deliverables.
- Take ownership of assigned projects while maintaining a high level of professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related discipline preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in plumbing design for commercial, healthcare, institutional, educational, hospitality, retail, or mixed-use projects.
- Strong proficiency in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD.
- Solid understanding of plumbing systems, including:
- Domestic water systems
- Sanitary sewer systems
- Storm drainage systems
- Vent systems
- Natural gas systems (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of applicable plumbing codes, building codes, and industry standards (IPC, UPC, IBC, and local jurisdiction requirements).
- Experience preparing permit and construction document packages.
- Ability to perform plumbing design calculations accurately.
- Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
