About the Role:
We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Accountant with a strong background in Australian accounting standards to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of hands-on experience working with Australian businesses or clients and a solid understanding of local compliance, tax regulations, and reporting requirements.
This role is perfect for someone highly organized, proactive, and committed to delivering accurate and timely financial reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records and reports in compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB)
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger entries
- Assist with BAS, GST, payroll, and superannuation reporting and lodgements
- Support in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Collaborate with external accountants, auditors, or regulatory bodies as required
- Ensure compliance with ATO regulations and deadlines
- Perform variance analysis and assist in budgeting and forecasting
- Identify opportunities for improving internal processes and financial reporting
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience with Australian clients or companies
- Strong understanding of Australian tax laws, ATO compliance, and reporting requirements
- Experience using Australian accounting software (e.g., Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks Online)
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other financial tools
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or with a team
Preferred:
- CPA or working towards CPA/CA qualification
- Previous experience in an Australian accounting or bookkeeping firm
- Familiarity with Single Touch Payroll (STP) and SuperStream
