We are seeking a highly organized and patient-focused
Patient Billing Services Representative to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience handling patient billing inquiries, processing payments, reviewing insurance claims, and resolving account discrepancies in a specialty practice environment. Experience with
ModMed (Modernizing Medicine) EMR is required.
This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide compassionate financial support to patients while maintaining productivity and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for inbound patient billing calls, addressing inquiries professionally, accurately, and empathetically.
- Process patient payments over the phone in accordance with established practice protocols and payment security standards.
- Review and interpret billing ledgers, insurance claims, and account histories to provide accurate information regarding balances and payment responsibilities.
- Post account adjustments accurately and in compliance with established billing guidelines.
- Verify insurance information and assist patients in understanding their insurance benefits, deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and outstanding balances.
- Document all patient interactions thoroughly and accurately within the ModMed EMR system.
- Collaborate with billing, coding, and insurance teams to resolve claim discrepancies, denied claims, and patient billing disputes.
- Meet or exceed established productivity and quality benchmarks for call handling, payment collection, documentation, and account resolution.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and all applicable healthcare privacy regulations.
- Support a positive patient financial experience through clear communication and timely follow-up.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of customer service experience in a healthcare, medical billing, or specialty practice setting.
- Demonstrated experience taking patient payments over the phone.
- Hands-on experience using ModMed (Modernizing Medicine) EMR.
- Proven ability to interpret billing ledgers, insurance claims, and patient account statements.
- Experience posting account adjustments with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills with a professional, courteous, and empathetic approach.
- Strong understanding of specialty billing workflows and patient financial processes.
- Ability to manage high call volumes while maintaining exceptional customer service.
- Strong organizational skills, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
- Dermatology billing or dermatology patient services experience strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with dermatology-specific CPT and ICD-10 coding and common dermatologic procedures.
- Experience working in a multi-provider specialty practice.
- Prior authorization and/or insurance verification experience.
- Knowledge of payer guidelines and specialty insurance workflows.
