Overview
The OSP Designer will be responsible for engineering and designing fiber optic network systems, with hands-on experience in both Outside Plant (OSP) and Inside Plant (ISP) environments. The role requires in-depth knowledge of permitting processes, pole and conduit licensing, and coordination with utility agencies. The ideal candidate will have prior experience obtaining agreements, licenses, and approvals related to deeds, leases, easements, and rights-of-way (ROW). The OSP Designer will work closely with the Field Engineering and Construction Manager to ensure successful project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Receive and process field-collected data to develop cost-efficient fiber network route designs per customer specifications.
- Analyze local and wide area network systems to determine optimal fiber paths.
- Read and interpret highway/road prints, utility maps, and as-built drawings to identify potential conflicts.
- Collaborate with vendors and internal GIS/CAD teams to produce required documentation for permit applications.
- Follow detailed procedures and adapt to changes in standards and workflows as needed.
- Coordinate forecasting, scheduling, resource management, and quality assurance with project teams.
- Review project deliverables for accuracy; identify and communicate risks or recommended mitigations.
- Manage scope changes, prepare billing documentation, and track project progress.
- Ensure network integrity and support the deployment of new access technologies.
- Assist with the completion and delivery of as-built packages and billing closeouts.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3+ years of sound OSP engineering experience deploying fiber optic networks, with knowledge of engineering principles, practices, procedures, and industry standards.
- Experience with Corning FlexNAP family of products.
- Knowledge of AT&T proprietary engineering systems.
- Knowledge of fiber optic counts, fiber assignments, and splicing schematics in high-density fiber environments.
- Experience working across all aspects of telecom with knowledge of NESC, NEC, and OSHA standards.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and experience using GIS platforms such as ArcGIS, ESRI, IQGeo, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with engineering tools such as OCalc, 3-GIS, or similar GIS/KMZ platforms.
- Proficiency in Adobe, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Sheets, and Google Drive.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
