The Role

The Single-skilled Craft Technician (SST) for Ammonia Refrigeration Plant is responsible for the operation, monitoring, troubleshooting and maintenance of the fully-integrated ammonia refrigeration system which includes all valves and controls for the various refrigeration loads consisting of ice cream freezers (including valves inside the freezers), hardening tunnels, cold storage, Glycol Cooling Systems, Brine Cooling System, Ageing Room, Reworks Chiller, Production Services Chiller, Water Chillers and Cooling Water Treatment.

What You'll Be Responsible For

Operation of the Refrigeration System

The SST ensures that all refrigeration equipment operates safely and efficiently in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) based on the required load to satisfy production cooling load requirement.

Plant Monitoring

The SST monitors all the operating parameters during the shift and records it in the logbook and logsheets. Makes necessary adjustments in operations (including shutdown of equipment) to optimize utilities consumption. Utilize the SCADA by using it in the monitoring and evaluating the alarms. Includes the monitoring of the water level and quality (chemical treatment and EST) at the evaporative condensers to prevent scale formation and optimize heat transfer.

Maintenance and Housekeeping

The SST performs CILT, preventive and condition-based monitoring on all the refrigeration system equipment and auxiliaries based on the maintenance program in accordance with the Standard Maintenance Procedure (SMP).

Troubleshooting and Emergency Response

The SST conducts troubleshooting activities on any abnormalities encountered and reported on the refrigeration system. Analyze and does corrective actions based on the troubleshooting and root cause analysis conducted Respond and contain ammonia releases thru immediate isolation, repair, and restoration of defective refrigeration components following established SOPs. Actively participate in all safety drills and simulations as part of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) to refresh basic knowledge prepared to respond to any emergency incident.

Process Safety Management (PSM)

The SST must strictly follow and work in accordance with the company's SHE standard on Process Safety and Ammonia Refrigeration System i.e. SHE Standard S-501 and S-504 and its succeeding updates. Participates in studies, training and activities related to Process Safety (ex. HAZOP, LOPA)

Continuous Improvement

The SST supports continual improvement in factory operations by continuously working to eliminate machine downtime and process incidents through preparation of Emergency Work Order (EWO), submission of kaizen projects and performance of Autonomous and Professional Maintenance practices aligned with ICMS (Ice Cream Manufacturing System) programs.

Refrigeration Projects

The SST should be involved in the life cycle of the refrigeration projects. Participates in meetings, trainings, and turnover of the projects. Conducts pumpdown, transfer of liquid ammonia, and evacuation of ammonia fumes safely based on SOPs for any projects involving line breaks.

Occupational Safety and Health

Follows and utilizes all appropriate occupational safety and health procedures and protocols relating to the Sourcing Unit and allocated equipment to ensure safety of everyone. Submit Safety Behavioral Observation and Safety Tags as part of the daily routine.

Environment

Reduces environmental impacts and costs associated with electricity, and oil consumption through optimal operation of compressors.

Quality and Food Safety

Compliance to Food Safety and Hygiene protocols (Dry Floor Policy, Machine CIP / COP, Line GMP, Cold Chain, CCP and OPRP compliance) and monitors quality against set standards (Extrusion Temp, Hardening Temp, Packing Hall Temp. & Humidity, Mix Forward Temp. and Ageing Room Temp.) and reports any issues as part of QBO and Quality incident escalation process.

Focused Improvement

Performs analysis of downtimes and operating cost to identify Opportunities for Improvement. Leads the team in Kaizen projects using analytical problem-solving tools and techniques.

Leadership

Promotes the development of a highly effective and autonomous team through strong communication, leading by example and effective problem solving and conflict management. Maintains focus on goals and targets.

World Class Manufacturing

Understands WCM philosophy, targets, losses and costs, to drive improvement in refrigeration performance. Strictly adhere to SOPs and SMPs. Can adapt to new technologies to drive competitive advantage. Good working knowledge in Professional and Autonomous Maintenance (PM and AM) Steps 1 to 3 and able to implement its principles.

Business Awareness

Understands the need to meet changing demands of consumers and the role of marketing and product innovation in supporting growth strategies of the business.

Others

The SST participates in toolbox/circle meetings and/or required training programs or refresher courses for continuous knowledge and skill building. Reports unsafe actions and unsafe conditions to Line Manager and/or Safety Manager. Performs tasks that may be assigned from time to time related to the employee's line of work and/or area of expertise.

We're Looking For Someone Who

  • At least 2–5 years of hands-on experience in operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of industrial ammonia (NH₃) refrigeration systems in food manufacturing, cold storage, or industrial facilities
  • Practical experience with screw compressors, pressure vessels, evaporators, condensers, oil systems, pumps, control valves, and safety devices.
  • Proven ability to execute preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance activities to ensure system reliability, compliance, and safe operation.
  • Experience responding to ammonia system alarms, trips, and leaks, including emergency response and coordination with Safety and Operations teams.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, equipment manuals, and refrigeration schematics for troubleshooting and repair.
  • Familiarity with lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, line break, hot work, and permit-to-work systems.
  • Experience working with contractors during shutdowns, overhauls, and plant upgrades.

Qualifications

  • Technical / Vocational Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Mechanical Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Licensed ME, EE, or Certified Plant Mechanic is required in compliance with government regulations.
  • Strong understanding of multi-stage industrial ammonia refrigeration principles, operations, maintenance, system safety, and emergency response.
  • Ability to read electrical diagrams, mechanical drawings, and piping layouts.
  • Strong teamwork, communication skills, and safety-focused mindset.
  • Computer literate
