GENERAL SUMMARY

Responsible for day-to-day support, maintenance and release management of enterprise applications, and shared oversight of IT service desk with the Business Systems Support Lead.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Business System Management

  • Monitor the performance of overnight batch jobs and data integration between enterprise applications; resolve issues and rejections by coordinating with business stakeholders, developers and software suppliers.
  • Maintain application defect logs and work directly with business managers, IT analysts, developers and software suppliers to prioritize and resolve defects.

Service Improvement

  • Provide input to regular service review meetings with technology suppliers.
  • Work with Application Development and IT Operations Managers to monitor and manage technical debt and platform compatibility.

System Reporting and Documentation

  • Provide regular reporting about service request volumes and performance metrics to IT and company management.
  • Ensure all significant IT incidents are logged, root cause analyses are completed and preventive actions identified.
  • Oversee the implementation of preventive actions and follow up with service providers as needed.
  • Provide regular written updates to IT and company management about significant IT incidents.
  • Ensure roles and responsibilities within the IT team as respect of application support and maintenance are clearly documented.
  • Ensure critical application support processes are clearly documented and well understood by the support team.
  • Maintain descriptive documentation for each enterprise application which outlines its purpose and capabilities, architecture and technologies, dependencies and integrations, security and access rights, and licensing model and ownership.

Release Management

  • Oversee releases of application upgrades, configuration changes and data patches to the production environment.
  • Establish and enforce protocols for authorizing release packages, evidencing testing, and updating support documentation, before allowing production deployments to go ahead.

Stakeholder Liaison & Consultancy

  • Ensure appropriate control of access rights to application functionality and data. Agree and document the business owners of applications and data; require their approval for any changes to access rights; support recertification of access rights with business owners on a periodic basis.
  • Provide input on behalf of IT to regulators, auditors and Lloyd's when needed. Support the gathering of evidence and documentation as needed for any audits related to IT.
  • Maintain documentation detailing application environments and application level restore/re-build procedures.
  • Participate in Disaster Recovery testing.

Education:

  • Degree holder in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent practical experience.

Experience:

  • 5 years experience in an IT system administrator role, ideally at an insurance company.
  • Windows server environments.
  • Microsoft Office suite.
  • Application release management best practices.
  • IT service desk best practices.
