Universal Robina Corporation is looking for a Risk Operations Officer.
Position Overview
Strategic Risk and Insurance Leadership
The Risk Officer holds a pivotal enterprise-wide role in safeguarding the company's financial and operational resilience. This position leads the end-to-end management of the non-life insurance program, covering over ₱50 billion in company assets, and exercises strategic oversight over claims administration involving high-value recoveries in the hundreds of millions. Acting as the company's lead negotiator through brokers, the role ensures optimal policy terms and premium structures that align with evolving risk profiles and business needs—demonstrating advanced financial acumen and strategic influence.
Enterprise Credit Risk Oversight
Beyond insurance, the role is instrumental in managing credit risk exposure across all business units. It provides functional leadership over a third-party shared service team, ensuring that receivables monitoring, aging analysis, and credit line utilization are proactively managed in accordance with corporate risk policies. The position drives resolution of complex collection issues and exposure risks, often involving cross-functional coordination and escalation to senior leadership.
Cross-Functional Influence and Strategic Advisory
Operating within a lean treasury structure, the Treasury Supervisor serves as a subject matter expert and strategic advisor to senior leaders on insurance and credit risk matters. The role contributes directly to high-stakes decision-making, particularly in the resolution of major claims and credit exposures, and is recognized for its enterprise-wide impact. It demands elevated authority, independent judgment, and strategic foresight—qualities aligned with leadership roles at higher job grades.
What are the Job Responsibilities
- Insurance Policy Management (Non-Life – PH & International)
> Lead the end-to-end renewal and procurement of insurance policies covering P50 billion worth of company assets, ensuring comprehensive protection accross local and international operations. This includes securing quotations and reviewing proposals.
> Coordinate with internal stakeholders to gather data for endorsements, coverage changes, and new insurance requirements.
> Negotiate with brokers to secure optimal terms and premiums, leveraging the scale and complexity of the company's risk profile.
> Ensure all policies are current, in force, and aligned with the company's risk exposure.
> Monitor expiry dates and initiate renewals proactively to avoid coverage gaps.
> Validate final policies and endorsements for completeness and accuracy.
- Insurance Claims Administration
> Manage and oversee insurance claims with values reaching hundreds of millions of pesos, ensuring timely submission and maximum recovery.
> Engage directly with senior leadership teams in Unicon and URC to resolve complex claims and expedite processing.
> Monitor claims status of all active claims and follow up with brokers and insurers to ensure timely processing.
> Review denied claims, assess the basis for denial, and prepare contestations or appeals to protect company interests.
> Coordinate with departments to gather documentation and clarify outstanding requirements.
> Escalate unresolved issues to the Treasury Manager with recommended actions.
- Credit and Accounts Receivable Management
> Monitor trade receivables and credit risk exposure across business units, with potential impact in the hundreds of millions of pesos.
> Review AR aging reports, credit line recommendation and credit highlights provided by the third-party shared service team.
> Identify and escalate potential collection risks or exposure issues, and recommend mitigation actions.
> Provide functional oversight to the shared service team handling Credit and AR Management, ensuring alignment with company risk policies and service level expectations.
> Act as the key liaison between shared services and internal stakeholders, resolving escalations and driving performance improvement.
> Collaborate with business units to address discrepancies and improve collection performance.
- Support to URC International Transactions
> Handle transactions and documentation requiring processing or routing in the Philippines Top Management in behalf of URC International Units.
> Review and validate documents prior to coordination with PH Top Management, ensuring timely approvals and transmittal to international units.
> Prepare reports on insurance renewals, claims performance, and creidt risk exposure (as necessary), supporting Treasury decision-making.
> Provide insights and recommendations to business units on insurance strategy, risk mitigation, and financial impact.
> Quantify the cost of delays, coverage gaps, or inefficiencies in pero terms to support business cases adn risk decisions.
> Track KPIs such as insurance cost, claim turnaround time, and broker responsiveness.
> Provide ad hoc reports and data as needed by the Treasury Manager or Top Management.6. Process Improvement and Compliance
> Identify and implement improvements in insurance and AR risk processes to enhance efficiency and reduce exposure.
> Ensure full compliance with internal policies, audit standards, and regulatory requirements.
> Support audit and review activities with accurate documentation and expert guidance.7. Other Duties
> Support other Treasury functions and special projects as assigned by the Treasury Manager.
> Actively contribute to cross-functional initiatives and Treasury's strategic goals.
What are the qualifications
> Graduate of Finance / Business Management / Accounting
> Strong understanding of non-life insurance claims processes, and credit risk exposure management.
> Demonstrated experience in reviewing and managing insurance policies and coordinating with brokers and insurers.
> Good communication skills - both verbal and written.
> Highly organized, with a methodical and orderly approach to tasks and documentation.
> Strong analytical and risk management skills; able to discern risks and opportunities and provide sound recommendations.
> Can work within minimal supervision and deliver results within tight timelines.
> Collaborative and dependable team player with strong coordination and interpersonal skills.
> Familiarity with shared services or outsourced AR management is an advantage.
