They are currently entering an expansive, major engineering build phase including the launch of brand-new native mobile apps, an innovative subscription membership framework, a custom credit engine, and self-serve merchant tooling.
They are now looking for an agile, collaborative Node.js Backend Developer to join their remote engineering cohort and scale the services powering this next-generation ecosystem.

What You'll Be Doing
Reporting directly to a New Zealand-based Engineering Lead as part of the backend marketplace squad, you will drive the core services supporting order management, product catalogues, and digital transactions. Your responsibilities include:
- Architect and Design APIs: Build, optimize, and maintain robust Node.js and Nest.js microservices utilizing REST and GraphQL architectures.
- Develop Core Engines: Implement logic for the high-volume marketplace catalogue, payment gateways, inventory management, and the proprietary subscription credit engine.
- Own Complex Integrations: Map data models and establish seamless integrations with external telecom providers (MVNO networks), Shopify plugins, and global payment processors.
- Ensure Platform Health: Monitor, test, and elevate the performance, security, data integrity, and end-to-end observability across all cloud services.
- Collaborate Across Squads: Work hand-in-hand with frontend web, mobile app, and architectural teams to participate in constructive code reviews and systems design.
What You'll Bring
- 3 to 5+ years of dedicated experience building enterprise-grade, high-traffic production backend systems.
- Exceptional expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, and backend framework architectures like Nest.js (or Express/Fastify equivalents).
- Proven track record of designing well-structured, clean, and highly performant RESTful or GraphQL APIs.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases (SQL), complex data modeling, and hands-on comfort within cloud environments (AWS or GCP).
- Solid grounding in Git version control, test-driven methodologies (unit/integration testing), and automated CI/CD pipelines.
- Excellent written and verbal English proficiency, with the comfort levels needed to collaborate asynchronously across time zones.
Bonus Points For:
- Background in e-commerce, retail tech, or marketplace platforms (specifically dealing with order management, inventory, or billing systems).
- Practical exposure to Shopify APIs, webhooks, or third-party plugin ecosystems.
- Experience working with event-driven architectures, message queues (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka, AWS SQS), or telco/MVNO integrations.
- Modern fullstack familiarity (React, Next.js) or advanced observability and APM tooling.
- Hands-on exploration or experience with Encore.ts.
