- Hands-on Device Management: Configure and install physical networking hardware including Cisco routers/switches, Fortinet appliances, and Omada switches/access points.
- Switching & Routing: Implement and tune network policies, protocols, and security profiles, including STP (Spanning Tree Protocol), LACP (Link Aggregation Control Protocol), and dynamic/static/policy routing, to ensure high-availability, loop-free and efficient data paths.
Traffic Management & Security
- Access Control: Enforce strict Network Access Control (NAC) and port security to prevent unauthorized devices from connecting to the network.
- Traffic Shaping & Optimization: Implement Quality of Service (QoS) and traffic shaping policies to prioritize business-critical voice and video data.
- SD-WAN & WAN Optimization: Manage SD-WAN configurations to optimize connectivity across locations and ensure efficient failover.
- VPN Technologies: Configure and maintain IPsec VPNs and Agentless/SSL VPNs for secure remote access.
Service & Incident Management
- L2/L3 Support: Provide advanced Level 2 and Level 3 support for network-related issues, acting as the final escalation point for the Service Desk.
- Critical Response: Lead the resolution of Severity 1 (Critical) network outages, utilizing advanced troubleshooting techniques to rapidly restore service.
- Flow Analysis: Utilize sFlow/NetFlow data to investigate bandwidth anomalies and pinpoint the source of network congestion during incidents.
Change, Problem & Asset Management
- Asset Management: Manage the full lifecycle of network assets (routers, switches, firewalls), including inventory tracking, license/maintenance renewals, and end-of-life planning.
- BCDR: Manage and maintain Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR) plans for network infrastructure, ensuring automated configuration backups, log retention is secure, redundancy and regular failover testing.
- Automation: Utilize network automation scripts and workflows to deploy standard configurations and reduce manual errors during changes.
- RCA and PM: Conduct Root Cause Analysis and Problem Management for network incidents to eliminate underlying configuration or hardware faults and eliminate recurring incidents, track known errors, and improve system stability.
Knowledge Management, Playbooks & Runbooks
- Operational Runbooks: Develop and maintain technical Runbooks for routine network changes (e.g., VLAN creation, Firewall rule additions) to ensure standardization.
- Incident Playbooks: Create and test Incident Response Playbooks for critical scenarios.
- Knowledge base/KEDB: Create and maintain a strong Known Error Database (KEDB) for faster fixes by recording incident trend analysis, root cause analysis, problem resolution, and workarounds/fixes.
- Topology Maps: Create and update detailed network topology diagrams (L2/L3 views).
- Disaster Recovery: Maintain up-to-date documentation of network disaster recovery procedures and regularly conduct failover tests.
Continuous Monitoring, Improvement & Reporting
- Monitor: Maintain 24/7 visibility on link saturation, device CPU/Memory, VPN tunnel status, and security alerts (IDS/IPS). Monitor backup success rates for network configurations.
- Improve: Regularly conduct Capacity Planning reviews to upgrade bandwidth/hardware before saturation occurs. Audit firewall rules quarterly to remove unused policies and harden security posture.
- Report: Generate periodic reports on Network Uptime (Availability), Bandwidth Utilization Trends, Security Incidents/Blocks, and Hardware Lifecycle Status (EOL/EOS warnings).
