We are building a secure, extensible API gateway platform with a modular connector architecture. The system is designed for API-first integration, stateless scalability, and enterprise-grade security, built on .NET, IIS, and MSSQL Server.
Responsibilities
Backend & API Development
- Build and maintain ASP.NET MVC and Web API services
- Design RESTful APIs with proper HTTP semantics (verbs, status codes, content negotiation)
- Implement middleware, controllers, and resource filters
- Support reverse-proxy-based request routing
- Develop background services and scheduled tasks using .NET hosted services or equivalents
API Gateway & Architecture
- Design and maintain API gateway and reverse proxy layer
- Implement request forwarding, header injection, and response passthrough
- Build modular plugin/connector architecture with runtime registration and discovery
- Maintain thread-safe in-memory registries and caching systems
- Ensure stateless, horizontally scalable service design behind load balancers
Security & Authentication
- Implement centralized authentication with multiple credential types resolving to a unified identity
- Develop and maintain OAuth 2.0 flows (client_credentials, private_key_jwt)
- Implement JWT issuance, validation, and claims-based authorization
- Manage signing key rotation strategies
- Implement HMAC-SHA256 request signing with secure verification
- Design group-based authorization with per-endpoint access control lists (ACLs)
- Apply secure secrets and credential storage practices
Data & Persistence
- Design MSSQL database schemas for authentication, endpoints, and access control
- Implement configuration storage across multiple tiers (platform, connector, deployment)
- Use JSON and key-value patterns within relational tables
- Optimize queries and implement paginated APIs for structured data
Integration & Event Handling
- Build webhook ingestion and event-driven workflows
- Implement retry logic and downstream request forwarding
- Integrate third-party REST APIs with multi-step orchestration
Admin & Platform Tools
- Maintain reverse-proxied admin interface
- Optionally develop lightweight admin UIs using ASP.NET Razor views
- Support management of connectors, endpoints, and access policies
