About IRRI
The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. The institute, headquartered in Los Baños, Philippines, has offices in 17 rice-growing countries in Asia and Africa, and over 1,000 staff.
Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.
Job Purpose
The consultant will support the Low-GI Rice Project by developing a practical, user-friendly training guide, with accompanying materials, that may serve as guide in setting up a market experiment and consumer survey. The consultant will review, synthesize, and organize existing project materials, including research instruments, manuals, survey tools, and protocols, and translate them into clear, coherent, and user-friendly guidance for CGIAR and NARS partners.
To better understand the process and ensure that the guide reflects actual implementation, the consultant will be exposed to the planning and fieldwork preparation activities for the Low-GI Rice Market Study in Cebu City. While travel with the field team is not required, the consultant will participate in planning discussions, briefings, and documentation reviews to understand how the market study is organized and implemented. Insights gained from this exposure will be incorporated to enhance the accuracy, usability, and operational relevance of the final training materials.
This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.
