What your day-to-day will look like:
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on electrical systems including lighting, power distribution, emergency systems, and control panels
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults, equipment malfunctions, and building system failures using appropriate testing equipment and troubleshooting techniques
- Respond promptly to reactive maintenance requests and emergency callouts, ensuring minimal disruption to building operations and occupant comfort
- Conduct regular inspections of electrical installations, identifying potential issues before they escalate and ensuring compliance with relevant codes and regulations
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, work orders, and equipment performance using computerized maintenance management systems
- Collaborate with other trades and facilities team members to coordinate complex repairs and support integrated building system operations
- Support energy efficiency initiatives by monitoring electrical consumption, identifying optimization opportunities, and implementing approved improvements
- Communicate effectively with clients, building occupants, and stakeholders regarding maintenance activities, timelines, and any issues requiring attention
- Participate in continuous improvement activities and contribute ideas that enhance service delivery and operational efficiency
- Recognized electrical qualification or apprenticeship completion (e.g., City & Guilds Level 3, NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation, or equivalent)
- Valid electrical license or certification as required by local regulations and jurisdictions
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in building electrical maintenance within commercial, industrial, or facilities management environments
- Strong working knowledge of electrical systems including lighting controls, distribution boards, emergency lighting, and fire alarm systems
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, technical drawings, and equipment manuals
- Proficiency in using electrical testing equipment and diagnostic tools safely and accurately
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions
- Strong health and safety awareness with commitment to following safe working practices and procedures
- Additional qualifications in related building services trades such as HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical systems
- Experience with building management systems (BMS) and integrated control platforms
- Knowledge of energy management principles and experience implementing efficiency measures
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and digital work order platforms
- Customer service orientation with strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility to participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergency situations outside standard working hours
