Overview
We are looking for a customer-focused Mortgage Application Specialist to support borrowers through the initial stages of the mortgage process. This role is ideal for professionals with experience in US Mortgage Loan Processing, Loan Officer Assistance, or Mortgage Account Management who enjoy speaking with borrowers, building rapport, and helping clients successfully complete their mortgage applications.
The successful candidate will act as a trusted guide for prospective borrowers, ensuring they understand the application requirements, gathering preliminary information, and providing exceptional support throughout the pre-application and application stages.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective borrowers during the pre-application and initial application process.
- Conduct outbound and inbound calls to assist borrowers with completing mortgage applications.
- Educate borrowers on mortgage application requirements, documentation needs, and next steps.
- Build strong relationships with clients through professional, empathetic, and consultative communication.
- Follow up with borrowers to collect missing information and required documents.
- Review application details for completeness and accuracy before submission to processing teams.
- Coordinate with Loan Officers, Processors, Underwriters, and other internal stakeholders to ensure a smooth borrower experience.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of borrower interactions in the CRM or LOS platform.
- Provide updates and status information to borrowers throughout the early stages of the loan process.
- Identify opportunities to improve the borrower experience and streamline application workflows.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in the US Mortgage industry.
- Experience as a:
Loan Officer Assistant (LOA),
Mortgage Account Manager,
Mortgage Loan Processor,
Mortgage Application Specialist; or
Similar borrower-facing mortgage role
- Strong understanding of the end-to-end US Mortgage Loan Process.
- Experience communicating directly with borrowers via phone.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Proven ability to explain mortgage processes and requirements in a clear, easy-to-understand manner.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience using mortgage CRM, LOS, or related mortgage platforms.
- Must be comfortable working in a highly interactive environment, maintaining a professional remote workspace, and being readily available for live communication with borrowers and team members throughout the workday.
Preferred
- Experience supporting Loan Officers in retail, broker, or correspondent lending environments.
- Knowledge of conventional, FHA, VA, and jumbo loan products.
- Experience working in a high-volume mortgage environment.
- Background in customer service, client relationship management, or consultative sales.
