Job Summary:
The Mold Designer Head leads the machine shop in designing, developing, and optimizing molds for manufacturing processes like injection molding or casting. Key responsibilities include creating 2D and 3D CAD models, selecting materials, ensuring efficiency and quality, performing mold flow analysis, and collaborating with production teams to solve issues and meet design standards.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Leads the design, review, and development of complex mold tool, and die designs, ensuring they meet project specifications and technical standards.
- Manages and mentors the design team, oversees workload, reviews 2D/3D drawings, and providing constructive feedback.
- Manages timelines, budgets, and resources for tooling projects, and oversees the creation of Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Creates new tooling concepts and detailed 2D and 3D CAD models for molds.
- Analyzes and improves existing mold designs for efficiency, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Conducts mold flow analysis to ensure proper material flow, and assesses mold performance to reduce defects.
- Collaborates with manufacturing engineers, production support, and technicians to optimize designs and troubleshoot processing or quality problems.
- Ensures designs adhere to product specifications, industry standards, quality and customer requirements.
- Prepares and maintains accurate records of design processes, modifications, and testing outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of BS in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering course.
- With more than five (5) years related work experience.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, particularly injection molding, casting, or thermoforming.
- Strong leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Familiarity with materials science related to mold-making materials.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
