Position: Merchant Relationship Manager

Office Location: Eastwood, Quezon City

Job Summary: The Merchant Relationship Manager manages and grows a portfolio of merchant accounts by driving sales volume, revenue, and long-term partnerships. The role focuses on deepening merchant relationships, identifying growth opportunities and ensuring strong performance and regulatory compliance in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Duties And Responsibilities

Growth in Merchant Portfolio / Business Development

  • Identify and execute strategic merchant partnerships to drive growth of proprietary programs such as PayEasy, PayLater, E commerce, and On-Us (straight transactions).
  • Coordinate with cross functional units to launch programs that support Issuing initiatives and generate incremental revenues, including new and untapped growth opportunities.
  • Move On-Us transactions of identified merchants to UnionBank Acquiring to optimize volumes and revenues.
  • Proactively cross sell applicable UnionBank products, marketing programs, and facilities to deepen relationships and maximize sales growth.
  • Participate in general assemblies to equip relationship managers with knowledge to effectively pre sell UnionBank's payment gateway solutions.

Merchant Account Management

  • Act as the designated lead in maintaining a centralized pipeline of merchant leads and referrals, with regular tracking and status reporting.
  • Ensure completeness and 100% compliance of onboarding documents for assigned merchants in accordance with bank policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and communicate merchant volumes within the assigned portfolio to anticipate potential downtrends, proactively address issues, and recommend mutually beneficial solutions.
  • Conduct regular and structured merchant visits, primarily at head offices and through weekly outlet engagements, to strengthen frontliner relationships and keep UnionBank top of mind.
  • Liaise closely with internal teams to efficiently resolve merchant inquiries, requests, and concerns.
  • Work with the Merchant Sales Team and cross functional stakeholders to track, analyze, and report performance, identify gaps, and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage projects end to end to ensure successful implementation, timely execution, quality delivery, and full compliance with all requirements.
  • Enhance end to end customer experience and engagement by ensuring strong Issuing support for proprietary programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Proven experience in merchant relationship management, account management, sales, or payments/financial services.
  • Strong capability to manage and grow merchant portfolios, including performance monitoring, issue resolution, and revenue optimization.
  • Working knowledge of payment solutions, including e commerce, merchant acquiring services, and credit cards/retail marketing.
  • Effective relationship building, communication, presentation, and networking skills for engaging internal and external stakeholders, including regional teams to drive sales growth.
  • Proven ability to collaborate closely with cross functional teams and frontliners to deliver initiatives and meet targets.
  • Strong sense of ownership, attention to detail, and accountability, particularly in managing PayEasy initiatives, compliance requirements, and contract or document reviews.
  • Leadership capabilities with the ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives simultaneously.
