Job Description
We are seeking a Medical Receptionist / Triage Nurse to support a busy medical practice by combining clinical telephone triage, patient communication, appointment coordination, and front-office support. This role serves as a key first point of contact for patients, helping them understand the appropriate next steps while ensuring their needs are documented and communicated accurately.
The ideal candidate is an actively licensed California RN or LVN with strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a patient-focused approach. You should be comfortable handling a high volume of calls, gathering relevant clinical information, providing guidance within established protocols, and escalating concerns to the appropriate provider or clinical team when needed.

Key Responsibilities
- Answer incoming patient calls promptly, professionally, and compassionately.
- Identify the purpose of each call and determine the appropriate next step based on office protocols.
- Perform clinical telephone triage within the nurse's scope of practice and established guidelines.
- Gather and assess relevant patient symptoms and information to determine the appropriate level of care or provider follow-up.
- Recognize urgent or concerning symptoms and appropriately escalate cases to physicians or clinical staff.
- Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments.
- Respond to routine patient questions regarding appointments, office procedures, follow-ups, and care coordination.
- Accurately document patient calls, symptoms, recommendations, and follow-up instructions in the EMR.
- Communicate patient concerns and clinical updates to providers and other members of the care team.
- Assist with referrals, prescription-related inquiries, medical records requests, and other patient needs.
- Maintain accurate and updated patient demographic and clinical information.
- Follow HIPAA regulations, patient privacy requirements, and all practice policies and procedures.
- Deliver a professional, courteous, and positive patient experience across every interaction.
- Manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, efficiency, and quality of patient care.
- Active California RN or LVN license required.
- Previous experience in a medical office, clinic, physician practice, or healthcare setting.
- Strong telephone communication and patient service skills.
- Experience handling a high volume of patient calls.
- Strong clinical judgment and the ability to identify situations requiring provider escalation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong computer, EMR, and documentation skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and stay organized in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Ability to work independently while consistently following established clinical protocols and procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient confidentiality.
- Urology experience preferred.
- eClinicalWorks (eCW) experience preferred.
- Previous telephone triage experience.
- Experience working in a specialty medical practice.
- Experience with appointment scheduling and patient coordination.
- Familiarity with referrals, prescription requests, insurance-related inquiries, and general medical office workflows.
