Your Role
As a Medical Coding Inpatient Auditor, you will:
  • Audit inpatient coding performed by coders and/or auditors to ensure coding accuracy standards (95%) are met.
  • Perform quality checks, calibration audits, and suggest process improvements for the team.
  • Prepare audit reports, share direct feedback to coders and auditors on areas of opportunity, and participate in client interactions and internal stakeholder meetings.
  • Monitor compliance with clinical documentation and coding guidelines ensure errors identified during audits are corrected and corrective actions initiated before claims are rebilled.
  • Conduct analysis and present audit findings to leadership in a clear, concise, and actionable format.
  • Maintain CEUs and stay updated on changes in inpatient coding and reimbursement guidelines.
  • Identify and report coding and/or EMR workflow issues to supervisors.
  • Maintain awareness of health record documentation ethics, escalating issues appropriately.
  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local coding laws, regulations, and professional standards.
  • Safeguard patient health information in compliance with HIPAA standards.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What You NeedNon-negotiables
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years inpatient coding auditing experience.
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in allied health field.
  • Credential/Certification: Active Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), or Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP).
  • RCM Knowledge: Proficient in medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, diagnostic/procedural coding, MS-DRG, APR DRG assignment, POA, SOI, ROM, HACs, PSIs. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
  • Software Knowledge: Proficiency with EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills (CEFR B2 minimum).
Preferred skills/expertise
  • Master's degree or credential in business, healthcare, or related field.
  • Registered Nurse (PHRN or USRN) license preferred.
  • AHIMA microcredential: Auditing: Inpatient Coding (AIC) or AAPC CPMA (Certified Professional Medical Auditor).
  • Experience with encoder/grouping software or Computer-Assisted Coding (CAC) such as 3M, Encoder Pro, or Codify.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint).
  • Prior experience with US healthcare providers or payers.
  • Strong attention to detail, follow-up, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to make independent judgments and complex decisions.
  • Demonstrates teamwork, integrity, and professional communication.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience in a matrixed environment.
