Job Purpose:
- To ensure complex medical information is accurately recorded, up to date and coded using prescribed UK industry standard read codes to enable robust patient management and clinic audits.
- To enable proactive management of patients with chronic diseases by developing and maintaining an efficient register that captures comprehensive patient information with appropriate recall dates for review.
Minimum Requirements:
- Applicants must be willing to work and relocate to Clark, Pampanga.
- Applicants must be a Filipino citizen or have a relevant residence status
- Registered Nurse or Registered Allied Health Professional
- Valid internationally accepted Medical Coding License from AHIMA, AAPC, etc.
- Must have 1 year of clinical coding (e.g. Certified Coding Associate, Certified Professional Coder, or other recognized equivalents)
- Thorough knowledge and experience of clinical coding
- Must be willing to work on shifting schedule.
- Must be willing to work on holidays and weekends.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Perform a comprehensive review of all medical records and reports received to ensure all component parts are completed and accurate. Escalate to the appropriate manager or doctor if there is any missing or incorrect data or information.
- Accurately code all relevant and documented diagnoses with relevant UK standard read code within the patient Electronic Patient Record (EPR) to ensure clinical audit compliance and robust patient management.
- Ensure all scanned reports and results are entered into the electronic patient record accurately and in a timely manner and escalate to supervisor if medical report has inaccuracies
- Review established coding manuals and guidelines provided. Check all relevant read codes to use within Emirates Group Medical Services to provide a standard approach to reading and application of codes used within the department.
- Work in collaboration with the designated doctor in providing the correct codes for the diagnoses
- Seek clarification with clinical team when assistance is required regarding ambiguous or incomplete medical records. Look to reducing reoccurring queries by working with the team on medical record accuracy and clarity.
- Develop and review standard operating procedures to ensure consistency of practice and ensure processes are not person dependant. Train other members of the team on these procedures enabling effective cover during times of absence.
- Check updates on coding guidelines approved by Dubai Health Authority and Ministry of Health ensuring practices being adhered to meet regulatory requirements and keep abreast of local, national and international drivers for change and updates to coding and registers best practice. Daily internal interaction with members of clinical, laboratory and administrative and senior management teams are also essential to the effective performance of this role.
- Ensure Medical records confidentiality is followed in all transactions to ensure security of the Electronic Patient Record (EPR). Medical Coder should sign the medical confidentality agreement form
