Job Description

This is a remote position.

A Pennsylvania-based physical therapy practice is seeking a full-time Medical Biller to join their growing and collaborative team. This remote position offers the opportunity to support a practice that prioritizes meaningful relationships—not only between patients and therapists, but also among team members and the wider community.

Responsibilities

  • Manage insurance denials and appeals

  • Coordinate with in-clinic staff for authorizations and retro-authorizations

  • Contact physician offices to obtain referrals

  • Manage credits and refunds through Athelas RCM software

  • Respond to patient inquiries regarding billing statements, balances due, and insurance benefits

  • Explain EOBs (Explanation of Benefits) clearly and accurately to patients

  • Serve as a liaison between the practice and Athelas

  • Update and maintain patient files with insurance details

  • Clarify insurance coverage details with payers

  • Ensure compliance with medical billing and coding regulations

  • Resolve billing discrepancies

  • Prepare billing and financial reports for management

  • Handle patient communication via phone and email

  • Perform data entry and generate basic reports

Requirements

  • Proven experience in medical billing, preferably in physical therapy or outpatient settings

  • Strong knowledge of insurance verification, denials, EOBs, and patient billing

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially when dealing with patients

  • High attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently and integrate seamlessly into a remote team

  • Experience with Athelas or similar RCM software is a plus
