About the Role
The Mechanical Solutions Engineer will serve as the regional technical lead within the Advanced Competitiveness Engineering (ACE) function. Reporting to the Mechanical Solutions Head, the engineer will be responsible for managing mechanical solutions regional interface functions across IMI sites during the RFQ and product development phases. This role involves leading collaboration and coordination with regional ACE and cross-functional teams to provide technical support for custom mechanical parts, ensuring best-in-class pricing, on-time project completion, and robust Design to Cost outcomes. The engineer will also contribute to the development and implementation of the mechanical solutions engineering roadmap while overseeing mechanical simulation, prototype development, and supplier technical performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary technical contact for mechanical solutions at IMI sites, collaborating and coordinating with regional ACE and cross-functional teams.
- Provide technical expertise for custom mechanical parts during the RFQ process to ensure competitive pricing and on-time completion.
- Utilize 3D CAD modeling and simulation software to create reliable, robust, and cost-efficient designs.
- Implement Design to Cost (DTC) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) strategies to identify cost drivers and improve manufacturing process optimization.
- Provide technical support for First Article Inspection (FAI) and the qualification of custom tooled mechanical components to ensure quality and compliance.
- Handle the technical development of mechanical suppliers to enhance their performance and capability.
- Oversee the development of mechanical prototypes as well as front-of-line and back-end mechanical processes and fixtures.
- Contribute to the continuous development and implementation of the mechanical solutions engineering roadmap.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Two (2) years of related work experience is considered an advantage.
- Strong background in 3D CAD modeling and mechanical simulation software.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical manufacturing processes, including injection molding, diecasting, and sheet metal stamping.
- Highly analytical mindset with sharp attention to detail and knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC).
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with preferred training in problem-solving, decision-making, and basic supervision.
