Job Description

This is a newly created Mechanical Drafter role driven by increased project workload, following the client securing two large-scale projects. The business requires immediate support to assist their internal drafting team and ensure timely delivery of shop drawings aligned with Australian standards.

The role will focus heavily on HVAC/mechanical drafting (approximately 75–80% of the time), with occasional support in engineering or estimation tasks (around 20%) depending on workload.

The main objective is to ensure accurate, manufacturable shop drawings that comply with Australian duct and mechanical standards, particularly ensuring constructability and coordination with other trades.

Key Hiring Criteria

Non-Negotiables

  • Strong HVAC/mechanical drafting experience
  • Solid understanding of Australian standards (especially ductwork, sizing, fabrication constraints)
  • Minimum 3–4 years experience in Australian HVAC / duct manufacturing or local exposure
  • Proficiency in Revit (must have); AutoCAD knowledge is expected as foundational
  • Ability to produce accurate, manufacturable shop drawings (not just design intent)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems (ducting, piping, coordination, sizing)
  • Experience with clash detection and coordination with other trades (e.g., Revit/Navisworks environment)
  • Strong communication skills, self-sufficient working style, and initiative
  • Excellent time management and ability to prioritise tasks under deadlines

Strong Preference

  • Mid to senior-level candidate (leaning senior)
  • Exposure to engineering decision-making (e.g., upsizing/downsizing duct or pipe systems)
  • Experience in construction, HVAC fabrication, or mechanical services environment in Australia
  • Familiarity with coordination in multi-trade project environments

Nice to Have

  • Revit MEP advanced experience
  • Experience with Navisworks / clash detection tools (e.g., Revisto or similar)
  • Engineering background (preferred but not mandatory)
  • Estimation or additional mechanical design exposure (depending on workload capacity)

Not a Fit

  • Pure CAD operators without HVAC/mechanical systems understanding
  • Candidates without Australian standards exposure
  • Purely design-focused profiles with no manufacturable/shop drawing experience
  • Junior-level drafters without real project exposure
