The Lead Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems for Data Centers and Cable Landing Stations (CLS). This includes HVAC, cooling, fire suppression, and other mechanical systems. The role requires ensuring that systems are energy-efficient, scalable, reliable, and compliant with client specifications, regulations, and industry standards. The Lead Mechanical Engineer will also collaborate with internal teams and external consultants/contractors to ensure smooth integration and successful implementation across all engineering disciplines.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems for data centers and Cable Landing Stations (CLS), including HVAC, cooling solutions, fire suppression, and other mechanical systems.
- Ensure that mechanical systems are energy-efficient, scalable, flexible, reliable, and compliant with customer specifications, regulations, and industry standards.
- Collaborate with the Data Center Design Manager, Data Center CSA Lead, Lead Electrical Engineer, and other departments to ensure the integration of mechanical systems with electrical, ICT, and structural systems.
- Provide technical leadership ensuring best practices are followed and design challenges are effectively addressed.
- Work closely with the Project Management team during execution to resolve any issues related to the installation and operation of mechanical systems.
- Oversee the commissioning and testing of mechanical systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety standards.
- Ensure ongoing optimization and efficiency improvements of mechanical systems during the operation phase of data centers and CLS.
- Provide guidance and support for troubleshooting and continuous improvement of system performance during the operational phase.
- Escalation: In the event of issues, escalate them first to the Data Center Design Manager for resolution. If the issue remains unresolved, the Design Manager will escalate to the VP & Head of Data Center Planning and Development for intervention.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the line manager.
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- 1 – 3 years of consulting experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on data centers or Cable Landing Stations (CLS) projects.
- Proven experience in designing and developing HVAC, cooling, fire suppression, and other mechanical systems for data centers and CLS.
- Strong proficiency in performing engineering calculations (e.g., thermal load calculations, airflow, pump head, system sizing, etc).
- Proficiency in mechanical design software (AutoCAD, Revit, HAP, Trace, CFD, etc.) and thermal modeling tools.
- Knowledge of industry standards and codes, including Uptime, ASHRAE, NFPA, and local building codes.
- Solid understanding of energy-efficient and mission critical design and sustainability practices.
- Experience collaborating with external consultants and contractors to ensure successful project delivery.
- Strong project management, communication, and leadership skills.
