We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Designer II to join our engineering team. This role is responsible for developing complete permit and construction documents for mechanical and HVAC systems while supporting project engineers and multidisciplinary teams throughout the design process. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical drafting skills, a solid understanding of mechanical system design principles, and experience using industry-standard design software.
Key Responsibilities
- Create complete permit and construction documents for mechanical and HVAC systems in accordance with project requirements, applicable codes, and industry standards.
- Perform basic engineering calculations necessary to support mechanical system designs.
- Research and apply relevant mechanical codes, standards, and regulations to ensure compliant designs.
- Work under the direction of Project Engineers, Project Managers, Architects, and other design disciplines to accurately implement project requirements and coordination efforts.
- Develop and revise mechanical drawings, schedules, details, and specifications using Revit, AutoCAD, and other design software.
- Coordinate design activities with internal team members and external stakeholders to ensure project consistency and accuracy.
- Participate in multidisciplinary project coordination meetings and resolve design conflicts as needed.
- Maintain high-quality design documentation and ensure deliverables meet established project deadlines.
- Contribute ideas and recommendations to improve design efficiency, workflow processes, and overall project quality.
- Take ownership of assigned work and demonstrate accountability for the accuracy and completeness of project deliverables.
Qualifications
- Completion of vocational school, military training, college degree, field experience, or significant experience in mechanical design and drafting.
- Extensive experience in mechanical system design and drafting, preferably within commercial, institutional, healthcare, industrial, or similar building projects.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering codes and standards, including Mechanical Code, NFPA standards, and other applicable regulations.
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and related design software.
- Experience working in a professional Architectural/Engineering (A/E) firm, consulting engineering firm, construction contractor environment, or equivalent organization.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to coordinate with internal disciplines, external consultants, clients, and project stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Field experience involving mechanical or HVAC system installation, commissioning, or construction support.
- Experience with BIM coordination and clash detection processes.
- Familiarity with energy codes, sustainable design practices, and building performance considerations.
