We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support our PMO–PMC team on international construction projects. This remote role (based in the Philippines) involves developing and coordinating mechanical designs—including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection—while ensuring full compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and project specifications. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, proactive, and experienced in integrating mechanical systems within multidisciplinary project environments.
Roles & Responsibility
- Develop mechanical system designs for various construction projects, ensuring compliance with quality control standards and safety regulations.
- Review and evaluate engineering drawings and technical documents related to mechanical systems.
- Engage in discussions with the team regarding preliminary scope definition, focusing on practical and technical parameters of the project/facility, physical site conditions, and understanding the client's priorities concerning quality and cost.
- Ensure the project scope is accurately captured and reflected in the design, minimizing the need for major revisions.
- Document preliminary scope findings and present them to the project team for integration into the design process.
- Develop and prepare a mechanical scope checklist for defining the preliminary scope.
- Oversee and manage various aspects of mechanical project design, including HVAC systems, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical services.
- Coordinate construction and refurbishment efforts, ensuring all mechanical design elements meet project specifications and stakeholder requirements.
- Apply mechanical engineering principles to assess and optimize system performance, efficiency, and sustainability.
- Collaborate with other disciplines such as electrical, civil, and structural teams to ensure seamless integration within the overall project design.
- Facilitate a smooth transition from the design phase into operational readiness and maintenance phases.
- Assist in developing bids/project pricing and cost estimates for mechanical systems and services.
- Generate detailed bills of materials and bill of quantities for mechanical components and materials required for the project.
- Identify efficient methods and techniques for mechanical installations and project execution.
- Contribute to the development of operational strategies and process improvement initiatives to enhance project efficiency.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on design assessments, findings, and recommendations related to mechanical systems.
- Track and record project data, including material lists, procurement status, and inventory requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; a Master's degree and registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) are highly preferred.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in mechanical design engineering and project coordination, including involvement in various construction and refurbishment projects.
- Extensive knowledge of applicable standards and codes such as ASHRAE, ASTM, local building codes, and international standards relevant to mechanical systems. Familiarity with US codes and standards is essential.
- Proven experience in integrating mechanical systems, such as HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection, within architectural and structural designs.
- Professional certification in mechanical design engineering or project management is advantageous.
- Proficiency in design software, incl. AutoCad
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Familiarity with building codes, safety regulations, and construction standards.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills with experience in client-facing roles.
