What's our culture like

Right now, we're helping founders raise money for a national daycare chain, a film studio, an AI and robotics defense company, and a music brand. If you don't love learning, you'll hate this job.

What would I be doing

Craft. Building beautiful PPT slides that perfectly communicate an idea.

Write. Writing, rewriting, rewriting again, and again, and maybe again. The best writing is rewriting.

Learn. We're constantly learning about new opportunities and businesses. We need to learn about a founder's business and the opportunity in front of them quickly and completely so we can communicate it effectively. If you've read this, include the words Peculiar Penguins in your application.

Join healthy debates. We are constantly iterating on copy, design, and story to deliver world-class pitch decks. How do we do it We argue furiously (in a happy and healthy way) to unearth the best ideas.

What qualifications and background are we looking for

Our current analyst team has pretty unusual backgrounds: consulting (BCG), startups, and journalism. One of our team members used to be a poetry professor, and another is still a part-time venture capital professor. We imagine successful candidates will have strategy, investing, or consulting experience, or an MBA. Everyone on the team has intellectual curiosity, world-class communication skills, attention to detail, a love for business, and finds joy in healthy debate and delighting clients.

English, written and verbal. Expert level is table stakes. If you've never run into the words luminescent, abstruse, or verboten, this probably isn't for you. Successful candidates will read books in English for fun.

Business instincts. If you never listen to business podcasts or read business books for fun, this probably won't work. We switch businesses and industries all the time, so no deep specialization is needed. You should be familiar with concepts like TAM, EBITDA, market penetration, and the power law in VC. Business nerds welcome.

Where will I be working from

Two location options:

LatAm: Remote, working hours that overlap meaningfully with US business hours (Central Time is our home base).

Manila: Remote, working US hours. This means roughly 9 PM to 6 AM Manila time, Monday to Friday. We need real-time overlap with our US team and clients, and that's the trade-off. We're upfront about it because we'd rather you self-select out now than burn out in month three. If you're a night owl who wants the salary, vacation policy, and team we offer, this can be a great fit.

Compensation

We're recruiting in LatAm and the Philippines because we want to find world-class talent that will stay with us for decades. We're not doing this because labor is cheaper. Our evil plan is to find incredibly talented, delightful people who we can overpay and treat really well so they never, ever want to leave. We want someone who will craft pitch decks with us for the next 20 years and become the very best in the world at it.

We'll start folks out at a salary on the generous side of fair. If you're performing well after a year, we'll pay you in the top 5% of salaries for your role in your country. Plenty of vacation. Real weekends.
